How does your team interact with one another and create synergy? In this post I'll show you what the right blend of personality styles are and how to work with them on your team.
STEP 1: Know What Personality Style You Have
The first step towards working together as a team is knowing your team members' personality styles. Here's how to determine which type of personality you have.
The 4 Personality Styles
You might be an extrovert on a different team. You might be an introvert on the same team. This doesn't necessarily mean anything bad, but it may mean that some personalities aren't a great fit for the team.
Extroverts
An extrovert is outgoing and loves being social. They enjoy being the center of attention.
Introverts
An introvert is quiet and prefers to be alone. They need some space. An introvert may be the shy type, or they may even be anti-social.
Chameleons
A chameleon doesn't really know their own personality type. They're able to adapt to different situations. This can cause problems in a team setting.
Neurotics
A neurotic is anxious and fearful. They feel the need to control every aspect of life.
STEP 2: Work With Different Personalities
What do you think about when you think about a person's personality type? Some people have specific associations. Do you think of someone as a social butterfly, a control freak, or a shy introvert?
Once you have an idea of your personality style, you can work with people that are different than you. It's important to understand the different types of personalities and use this to your advantage.
Working With Extroverts
An extrovert needs to be around other people. They thrive in environments where they are the center of attention.
Extroverts need social contact, but sometimes they feel overwhelmed by people. As long as they can separate themselves from the situation for a bit, they are fine.
An extrovert likes to talk about things. Sometimes, this means they talk too much. If you are an extrovert and you notice that your coworker is feeling overwhelmed by a lot of social contact, try to give them the space they need to recover from this.
Working With Introverts
An introvert also needs a lot of social interaction, but they can become overwhelmed by too much social contact. Sometimes you'll find an introvert talking too much, but if you don't interrupt, they will be more open.
It's important for an introvert to be able to get away from social situations. Otherwise, they can lose their motivation to do their work. Try to find ways for them to have less social interaction so that they aren't constantly thinking about it.
Working With Neurotics
When dealing with a neurotic, you need to watch out for anxiety. They may think they are controlling everything. When they see their coworkers feeling this way, try to let them know it
