In today's world, we're often bombarded by negative messages about ourselves. Our culture is constantly reinforcing messages of negativity. We can all do something to be happier, more confident and positive. This list highlights some things that I've found really effective in helping me improve my mental state.

11 Ways To Be Happier, More Confident And Positive

1 Practice being grateful.

It’s not easy to practice gratitude, but if you want to experience happiness, you have to become more mindful. Focus on the good in your life instead of dwelling on what isn't so great. It's difficult at first, but as you become more aware of your blessings, your confidence will soar.

2 Practice listening to positive music.

I was going through a pretty rough period when I started playing upbeat songs like "We Are Young" by fun. By choosing songs like this, I was able to refocus my attention away from negativity. Listening to more positive music also promotes positivity.

3 Stop watching television.

I used to think that being glued to the television would help me stay positive. But the opposite actually happened to me. Instead of being focused on more productive things, I spent way too much time watching TV. I tried to break the habit by focusing on more uplifting content and putting more effort into positive activities like exercising.

4 Have faith in yourself.

You’ve probably heard this advice before. But it’s absolutely true. Believe in yourself and your ability to accomplish your goals and you’ll start to feel happier and more confident.

5 Get involved in social groups and communities.

It’s great to have people you can go to for support. The more social connections you have, the happier you’ll be. You’re likely to feel happier as well, since having friends and loved ones to support you can also make you feel more cared for.

6 Be generous and forgiving.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.” So you shouldn't hold grudges. Don't keep a tally of things you don't like about someone else. Instead, focus on how your partner, friend, or family member has helped you. You'll find that it goes a long way toward making you feel better about yourself.

7 Practice a daily gratitude ritual.

Every morning, before you begin your day, take a moment to think about all the things that are going well for you and why they're going so well. You may come up with reasons such as your good health, an exciting new opportunity, or simply feeling safe and protected in your own home.

8 Practice mindfulness.

This means taking an extra second to pause before you respond to someone. Instead of immediately typing something into your phone, consider letting things unfold without taking action. Mindfulness makes you more thoughtful and patient. You'll be less irritable,
