From engineering to farmer.

I wrote my name in the grass.

Childish I know.

I have gone from needing to precision measure parts to learn what soil suits what vegetation. Learn about lime for soil, fertilizers and natural pesticides.

What I do now, farming in the middle of nowhere is a far cry from what I was doing in the UK.
The sitting in traffic for 1 hour each way, after driving 100's of miles too. Then 8 hour shift, compared to relax and grow food.

I know which I prefer, and that is now.

It would take me 1 hour on the way home, 1 hour to get 2 miles in the centre of Birmingham. That was every day.

Now I get up when I want, sleep when I want. Do what I want and when I want to do it.

It seems a lifetime ago now, and it is since them days in cold dark car factories scouring documents to make sure a car would work, would be fit for purpose, now I lift soil with my hands to see if it is alkaline or sandy, and decide what to plant and where.

I had enough, had my fill of chemicals at car factories so only use natural products now. The pesticide of choice for me is nettles soaked in water for a week. It smells very pungent, but insects do not like it so it works very well and costs nothing but effort.

You can have a look at some parts of our farm here.

I make a lot of these now, classic bikes. That is number 494 of 500 made by Yamaha, got two of the 500 now.

Keeps me busy, makes a few quid here and there (money).

At the moment I am building/restoring a Yamaha rd 350lc from 1980 something. Kenny Roberts yellow.

If you like bikes and rebuilds I will do a series of the build on here.

Have a superb sunny day, getting a bit chilly here in the AM, but nice in the PM.

Reminds me of myself a few years ago - from nuclear physics to agriculture! lol. It's all just science - tried to get the locals away from their monoculture and fertilisers - no chance, coz they are so wise. But I knew people with agri degrees and they confirmed my dual system would work, plus organics rot very quickly here so could have had fertile soil in 2 years. Anyway, may do it again - looking for land atm.

Where are you based bud? I would love to read about your your system, maybe it would aid mine.
I have noticed the rot with so called organics, or are they GMO?
We harvest only the best seeds now, a lot are "tainted" by big tech, so 7 years in on trying to stay away from buying seeds from shops.

Tropics have very different climate - Thailand is hot and humid then hot, humid and wet. as u know.
Yeah, many hybrid seeds now, so that the plants grow like machines.
Really depends if growing food or industrial plants - often for paper and biofuels.

Yes Thailand was hot, then wet in the rainy season. Songkran was fun. I did learn to speak Thai, interesting experience indeed, @lucylin still lives over there.
Say sawadee kap to him :-)

Really? Where is @lucylin ? lol
All my farang "friends" have bought into the new fake - or have left.

Ask him, he is in the countryside, maybe oudhanthani, unsure, he does know Pattaya well.

Farang, not heard that for 7 years now. I am always a foreigner as I left my country of birth.

hah, I have 3 nationalities and everywhere tried to make me feel like a foreigner - now I really am one!
Don't give a shit - be an individual... and human, if possible.

The Polish have been good to me. They know I am from abroad, but have always treated me as a human, the Thais took the piss with always wanting more money, fake smiles, fake as they come.

I would agree to that for sure.

I used #farm on a post today.

Damn , just today i connected some overpowered sound system to my laptop ,...
To get some music programming going ,... but that KTM vid almost blew it ,.. ;-)

2 stroke , yeah man , it hit's every rotation , so double the sound of a 4 stroke .

And where you go for original restorations ,.. we up here change any machine to our liking ,.. witch is not always the most save thing to do ,..

20211025_195334.jpg
450cc 2t Puma snow-scooter ,... with front wheels .

We still ride true mansions of glory on suicide machines .
Even do Wendy went to study and didn't believe she had to run . ;-)

Sell me an engine from one, I shall show you a rocket bike.

Sorry about the speakers bro, but had to do it.

No problem ,... i must learn to lower the volume when i stop the music ;-)

The music is crap, the bike sings

lol bro. at least I made you smile.

Tempting ,.. ;-) ,.. there is also a 750cc 2t snow-scooter standing around here .
All those machines , for there is more , where collected and bought cheap in the last two month's by a fellow mechanic that lives here to . Has something to do with having a pro welder in town now .
This guy thinks it is blasphemy to sell or even trow away a engine ,.. any engine , like we have a Renault combo 1.6 16v with a burned out ECU ,.. keep the engine , let's make it in to a 2 stroke or something he said . I guess having space to drive around makes one wanna create some fun vehicles . ;-)

"I guess having space to drive around makes one wanna create some fun vehicles . ;-)" Indeed, want to make a direct injection 500c 2t with passive hho or browns gas too.
