I stumbled over a quote today while browsing the internet that truly got me thinking about people, the world we live in, human emotions, and the unique journeys we are all on.
There are 7.5 billion of us, everyone of us is penning a unique tale, with every day bringing a fresh chapter. Despite this, we hardly ever pay attention to or acknowledge the tales of other individuals.
Everybody's tale has somehow entered into a massive race against time. We all strive to live our best lives, facing our own struggles every day, and as a result, we sometimes treat other people with a certain level of indifference.
It's interesting that even while we are aware of our own battle scars, we don't show the same regard for the struggles and wounds of others. When things are going well, people have a tendency to forget the horrible times fast and to treat their friends with disdain.
We simply don't know someone's entire life story up until that moment or what they are going through when we meet them. They could be experiencing torment or they could be riding a wave of bliss.
In any case, we ought to treat everyone with kindness. No harm has been done if the other person is okay. However, consider the possibility that if they are going through a difficult period, it might upset them even more. You never know when or what might lead to a collapse in that individual.
Which would you rather instill in someone else—self-assurance and strength, or be the source of their suffering? Tiny deeds of kindness are incredibly underestimated and have a profound impact.
A grin alone has the power to divert someone's entire cognitive process. Imagine that you are having a horrible day when a stranger you don't know grins at you. Would you not feel better right away? Do the same for other people now. Show kindness. All the time!
