According to what I gather about the new iPhone 12, the new iPhone 12 range will come with a large, circular array of magnets inside. Following multiple hardware leaks, 9to5Mac has confirmed the final piece of the puzzle (Why are they there?), after the site attained a video showing the prototype of a new Apple magnetic wireless charger.
The amazing phone in the video is stereotypically Apple: a minimalist white circle with charging coil and connector on the back. Furthermore, 9to5Mac notes that when comparing the charger to leaked schematics of the iPhone 12 range’s circle of magnets, “The dimensions of the charging module pictured in today’s video seems to line-up.
In addition to the features I read about the new phone these magnets are expected to do more than just aid accurate placement on a charging mat. They are also understood to herald the arrival of a new array of magnetic accessories, such as car mounts. Sales of magnetic wireless chargers and accessories should be given a big ‘helping hand’ by Apple this year, with the company removing the standard wired charger from iPhone boxes.
