Welcome, fellow Blurtians!
Thank you for joining me on my first article!

Stay tuned to the end of this article and you'll be able to see some highlights of a military vessel I served on for a couple of years.

There's the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've heard it all about Blurt. It turns out that since my Steemit days, I had an account here with the rest of this beautiful community. So, here I am exploring your world. So far, I like what Blurt has to offer and I'd like to try and expand my crypto-blogging into this fine establishment.

Happy to be at Blurt

On Steemit, Hive, and now Blurt, I go by the username Scholaris. In the real world, my name is Felix Martinez. IRL, I work as a Engineer working in California. I'm currently moonlighting as a Senior Business Analyst. I decided to expand my skillset while I continue to work in this state to raise my employment options after the site I work at shuts down permanently.

Steemit

I started on Steemit blogging about STEM articles mostly. My career focused on power production so it was a no brainer for me to pursue the same topic. I learned about markdown, writing, and engagement while I developed my block on Steemit.

Tron

Some time after I wrote about 30'ish articles on STEM for Steemit, it appears an evil overlord named Justin Sun came to take over the platform.

Hive

A group of knowledgeable individuals broke from the Steemit blockchain to create Hive. I've been there ever since. I continued to write STEM articles there, but I also started venturing into the fantastic. Fiction became the name of the game and I've been experimenting with this area of writing.

I'll share with the group my most recent blogs related to story-telling before developing this craft further on Blurt and more.

Proof of Brain

I started writing fictional/factual pieces when I joined the #ProofofBrain community on Hive. On Hive, it is this community I find myself engagement with the most. I still dealt with Stem, but I starting going outside of my comfort zone with this group.

I started actively participating in their Word of the Week contest. I became a curator in this contest, as well as, assisting in the development of a rubric used to objectively grade about 30-40 articles per week. The contest goes on still today. The contest creator is on an extended hiatus and I'm managing in his place until his return.

Before Crypto

I served in the nuclear navy submarine program for just under 10 years. Five and a half years of my navy time was spent stationed on board the USS Albuquerque. It was a fast-attack submarine stationed at one of the US navy ports. It was a different world out there. My old ship is decommissioned now, so who knows where it's at.

Stay tuned to the end of this article and you'll be able to see some highlights of it in a special news reel.

In Conclusion

Nuclear sub - few know that London has (had?) 2 nuclear reactors, both experimental but one was owned by the Royal Naval College - I assume decommissioned now as the premises bought by a univ.
welcome!

I would imagine it would have remained operational. It costs a pretty penny to decommission a nuclear reactor. And if it's used for testing purposes those puppies can run indefinitely with "affordable" upkeep. Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, which is why the reactor was still there. Long story but I had the cheek to investigate buying the place - not as a palatial home but for a museum of mathematics - there was also a lot of money in the UK at the time for new cultural centres. Anyway, I was only 2 years behind the curve (lmao) and the local university had already agreed to buy the Naval College. However... I knew it had a reactor and it probably cost as much to decommission as the premises.

Was kinda funny that the people I spoke to thought this was some deep secret. My research at the time was in the history of science, which is full of secret research - some of which still hasn't gone public! :-)

Decommissioning can get quite expensive depending on the future use of the land. The technology exists to completely restore the land.

One area I worked at was a toxic waste dump back in the 50s and 60s. The US declared that area as a hazardous site back then and completely restored the area. It's a vast land of trees now. You'd NEVER know it was so polluted.

Decommissioning, though, takes a long time. For nuclear power plants, decommissioning will take decades and billions (USD) to restore to its original site.

Oh yeah, there's definitely a secret stigma to it all as well. Accessing the information isn't common at all even though a lot of it is public. However, like anything else in life, you almost have to be working in the industry to understand the information available.

Welcome to Blurt, sorry about the image server issues we are having currently. I remember SteemSTEM fondly, I was business partners with Reggamuffin for a time, he and Suesa were involved with SteemSTEM also.

Hope you enjoy Blurt!

Welcome to Blurt. ProofofBrain is also awesome. So far Blurt and ProofofBrain Brain are the best things to come out of the Graphene Blockchain Experiment. Splinterlands is pretty good too if you like to earn 70 % APR passive income.

Yeah, proof of brain is a pretty nice community. I'm enjoying their activities and contests. The creator wanted to make a place that was cool and where people enjoyed writing for the sake of it. I think he's succeeding in that endeavor.
