Or perhaps you are old friends?
Some of us have been riding this merry-go-round of crypto based social media sites for over four years now and after a while the avatars become like familiar faces, old flames from the past. Some you hate, some you love.
I am not one of those who hides behind an avatar or fake name. This is me. And a courgette!
My history in a nutshell
I started designing computer games when I was 6 years old (using a code called basic for the bbc micro) but my mother only permitted me one hour per day so I ultimately took up magic instead. After winning The Young Magician of the Year competition (age 13) I became a filmmaker but tired of my London life ten years ago, so sold everything and set out on a barefoot journey around the world.
I met Sabrina on a bus in Thailand and now we live in the South of France with two kids, homesteading and learning to live off the land.
I entered the crypto space in 2016 and was amongst the first users on steem. Since then I have tested out numerous crypto based social media sites and am curious to see if Blurt is able to do what others are struggling with.
I learned about Blurt from @andy4475 who kindly sent a little liquid to get me started here. Quick side note to the #blurtdevs this is not an effective system for newcomers.
My main focus these days is on natural food production and methods of storage for the winter. To all extents and purposes I am a farmer now. My goal is to be 100% independent here in the south of france. No more need for shops. Only in this way will I keep my family safe & healthy during the potentially testing times we have ahead of us.
Still, happy days everyone!
Tell me about yourselves?
Why are you here?
Many thanks for your kind mention Sam , I'm pleased to see that you have finally begun your new journey on #BLURT ~ I wish you all the best here 👍 @samstonehill √
Yep... better late than never ;)
The interface feels very familiar here. Bit like the old days on steemit!
Yes, the interface is similar, but also much better now...
4.) Several specific "Topic Hash Tags" are well supported and rewarded by the owner.
5.) No DOWNVOTES allowed! Not Needed - high votes can easily be removed for abuse.
6.) No BBD (Blurt Backed Dollar) Not needed , SBD has always been pointless!
That is just a few improvements on #BLURT Sam 😎
SBD is not pointless. It allows trading in the internal market. That is a DEX. @quicktrades loves it, HBD more.
A BBB (Blurt Backed Bitcoin) or BBG (Blurt Backed Gold) would be great!
I respect your knowledge @droida √√√
I fully admit that I'm definitely not a Crypto expert 👍
You will be one soon.
All very beautiful. All of it and also forms in the category of a ulog, very much. I still remember an old talk about your dad and film-making, years ago. You can participate still if you desire, as a ulog today, will come out different from a ulog yesterday. Here: ulog-contest called 'Who Are You?'. You can invite others too, even those not yet on Blurt. Everyone can ulog. Plus, with this contest, every participant wins something.
If you vote on the 'surpassinggoogle' witness, that will be valued. Stay awesome!
Is that you @surpassinggoogle ? Happy to vote for your witness if so.
You are one of those I consider an old friend. Not too many people know about my dad ;)
Yes Sam , @blurtulogs + #ulog are both Terry 😀
Thanks ;)
Awesome. Welcome to Blurt.... you’re going to love it here. This is a very Positive, happy, friendly place. Very different from those other places with all the Angry Whale downvotes. I’m here to spread more Loving Kindness and Good cheer.... Something the world needs More than anything at this moment.
Thanks buddy. I like your name. Are you actually off-grid?
This is my dream!
Happy to give this place a shot and assist in spreading some love... along with a little sprinkle of reality and awareness ;)
I chose my Steemit name back in 2017 when I joined Steemit. I have been blogging there since June 2017, and Hive since March 2020. Offgrid Life was my dream back then also.... at the time my wife and I were designing our offgrid cabin here in Canada. We searched for years for land on one of the Great Lakes.... Superior or Huron.
Land is expensive on a Lake. Eventually we found a few acres on an Island on Lake Huron for $4,000. But it was more like a subdivision with rows of properties for sale. We looked into the costs of transporting supplies from nearby Manitoulin Island and it was very expensive. I also costed the Solar Power system and batteries to provide the #kwhr we needed ... this was also hugely expensive.
The amount of wood we would need to heat our cabin during an average Canadian winter was ridiculous... we would have to chop many trees down. The more I looked into it the more I realized that offgrid living did not make very much sense here in Canada. You need to run a fossil fuel generator to keep the batteries topped up when there is no sun or the deep cycle batteries will die.
Offgrid living did not seem very good for the environment. Also the long trips back to the City to buy supplies was a huge waste and created Tons of CO2.
So instead we bought a larger piece of land on the edge of Suburbia here in Ontario and I planted my own forest... I can cycle to the grocery store and we are growing our own fruit trees, apples and pears and living close to net zero by keeping our life simple.
I decided I would rather plant trees than chop them down for fire wood. Also I am an Architect and too busy designing things for other people. (Mostly offices for Gov) so I need a break from design on my days off. My wife and I both work from home so don’t even need a car.
Interestingly i met my wife (also an Architect, now Jewelry designer) on an Archaeological dig in Southern France way back in 1992... St Bertrand de Comminges. We were there with the University of Ottawa digging up a Small Roman town built by the Emporer Pompeii.... I wrote many times about our adventures and discoveries over on Steemit... many years ago. I Earned a few pennies for my work. Happy to be here on Blurt.
What a beautiful publication, so full of family love and human warmth. Welcome to this great Blurt family.
I also like nature, and I have some small plants planted that I use for cooking.
I love good energy and the sea.
When you want, you are welcome to the discord to share cookies and a cup of tea or coffee and meet new friends.
Good vibes.
Appreciate your warm welcome :)
Let's see if I make it over to discord. So many different places to be already. It can all get a bit confusing!
Welcome to Blurt @samstonehill glad to see you made it.
Some of the changes may not seem very newbie friendly, but in the long run it eliminates a lot of issues which arised on Steemit with a lot of accounts, spam, downvotes, the vibe in Blurt is like when we all first arrive back in the day on Steemit when it was first starting up community focused.
For newbies it may put people off that arrive by the off chance to the site that can't sign up, on the other hand it makes accounts more valuable because people that want them will do the required interaction.

Wow! Feels like a long time since I last interacted with @adsactly
Remember being somewhat involved for a while but like always, so many distractions. And as you say, problems on the blockchain.
Let's see how this place works out...
Good to be here :)
Has been a while, it's nice to see known faces.
Everyone suffers from distractions, it's all good, everyone is learning how crypto and blockchain projects are evolving all part of the journey.
@Lovely lovely garden!!!
Thanks! We are doing our best ;)
I am very impressed, great video. Good luck here and for your 100% independence.
Appreciate you watching the film. It has been a long time since those days but I do still pull out the video camera from time to time ;)
