Let's see where this goes. I spun up a witness node this morning. It's very easy and takes only about ten or fifteen minutes to go from zero to a fully operational witness node. They have streamlined it and made it much easier to setup. It also doesn't require a very powerful server like with Steem and Hive nodes.
