You should purchase a lovebird while it is still young if you wish to care for and train one. To tame it, though, does require some persistence and time. On the other hand, if you purchase an older lovebird, look for one that has been handled humanely and provide some instruction to make it simpler.
Maintenance Technique
Many believe that keeping lovebirds requires pairing them up at all times. Lovebirds can, however, survive without a romantic partner as long as they receive adequate attention and connection from their owners.
Since lovebirds are sociable creatures, they will flourish when they feel a part of the flock. On the other hand, if you don't have much time to talk to your significant other, offer a companion so your bird can thrive.
Nutrition Feeding.
Lovebirds a wide variety of foods is recommended. Beginning with produce, grass, grains, and fruits. The foundation of its diet should be a high-quality pelleted bird food. Then you can add some grains and a variety of fresh foods to it as a supplement. Take no more than 25% of the total food as grains.
Cuttlebones can still be fed to the animals in the cage in order to supplement their diet with calcium. So, attempt to switch up the fresh food varieties. Keep in mind that your lovebird might take some time to get used to new things, especially food.
Cage Choice
You will need a cage that is at least two feet long by two feet wide and two feet high in order to keep a lovebird. But a bigger cage is usually preferable. Consider making a longer cage instead of a taller one if you can.
The lovebird will be able to stretch its wings and even fly across some of the cages as a result. To enable the bird to climb over the side of the cage, the bars should be horizontal and spaced no more than ½ to 5/8 inches apart.
The tail feathers are more prone to be harmed in spherical cages, therefore stay away from these. You can also give perches of various sizes, including natural branches if you can, to keep the legs strong and healthy. Lovebirds have a lot of perks, including their charming appearance and demeanor, which is why many kids adore them.
Instruction
Lovebirds are quite energetic and playful, much like any other parrots. Your relationship with them will be strengthened if you pay them attention every day. To keep these birds occupied, it's a good idea to stock up on lots of toys and move them around the cage. Verify that all toys are devoid of lead and zinc, and that the cloth has no loose threads that could entangle your lovebird's fingers.
Make sure there are no little bits that can be chewed and ingested when purchasing toys for lovebirds. Additionally, keep your hands free of clips, frayed cables, and other tiny objects that could entrap a bird's head, feet, or beak.
Wooden, sisal, leather, acrylic, and rawhide toys, as well as bells and ladders, are examples of safe toy materials. Household things like paper cups, ink-free cardboard, empty tissue roll tubes, and dry pasta shapes all function.
