Technically Speaking... There is "Something" Here

in introduceyourself •  4 years ago

I don't really have much idea of what's going on here, but I decided to poke my nose in here, just to say hello!

Hello Blurt!

Looks like this launched with only the barest minimum of features active. Yeah, it takes a lot of work to create and activate a social platform.

Here, have a picture of a cat! That's "Orange." Yesh, I know, we weren't all that original...

Anyway, some of you know me from Steem and Hive, where (of course) I go by the same name.

I'm curious, but not really planning to put a whole lot of effort into this till I can actually see that it's up and running and not super glitchy.

So Hi!

If anyone is alive, leave me a comment!

Hey there, @denmarkguy!

It's nice to see you here.

Yeah. The blockchain is up and running, but the websites to interact with it are still a work in progress. It's going to take a while for everything to be fully functional. The dev team is much smaller here than on Hive.

Anyway, welcome to Blurt!

Hi there @saboin!

Sounds like you at least know a little of what's going on here... are you part of the dev team? Or someone acting in the capacity of development coordinator? Or is it just a giant free-for-all?

Not part of the dev team per se. I run a witness node and I talk with the devs in the Blurt Discord. I do a little bit of Python programming, so I'm able to test things and tell the devs when something isn't right. I have a few programs running on Hive, but I haven't made anything for Blurt yet.

I'm running a witness and doing related work not on the interfaces as such. I may build a wallet GUI cross platform with a library I have been using, as I will first get its basics for a side project (simple stake/interest thing). So, yeah, I'm not gonna be helping much directly at this point.

The plan is to eventually reimplement the protocol and migrate the data, and make some changes in how it's engineered based on experiences and new capabilities, make spinning up new chains and opening exchange between their markets cheaper and simpler.

So, really at this point we want the enthusiasts and developers most of all to get involved. Because nobody in these platforms wants facebook but all their damn parents use it. Something that is really secure and empowers peer to peer business and copes with hostile networks, yet is easy enough for granny.

So you evidently have your fingers somewhat in the pie, at least... good to know.

If you want "enthusiasts" (meaning content creators, I presume) having a fully working front end — even if it is super simple — is essential. If the basics aren't working, you're going to lose all that "initial enthusiasm" right down the toilet... not because this isn't cool, but because there are functioning alternatives already up and running.

If you're looking to get granny (aka "mass adoption") to consider places like this, you're starting point for simplicity is "Log in with Facebook or Google." I'm serious. That's what the mainstream social user EXPECTS. Anything much more complicated than that, and you start losing people...

Hello and welcome.

Thanks, just checking out what's here!

does this work already?

Well... it's "online." It's perhaps a bit of an overstatement to say that it's working, since half the features don't seem to be active yet, or lead to "dead" pages.

But I guess it'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

Yes quite alot features aint working, with time they all will. You a cat man ? 😁

I hope they get it all a little more workable, and soon.

Yeah, I like cats.

I am aliiive and I just logged in the platform
Yes, it does take a lot of work to make and maintain a social network (or it will not be social :P)
Let's see what happens here, I am on my way to follow you here too!

Hi @katerinaramm!

I do hope they get the various issues fixed soon or those who showed up here with some initial enthusiasm will soon lose interest and LEAVE... and then the whole project will end up dead in the water.

It looks like things are beginning to function better here on Blurt. I am hoping to do shorter posts than I did on the other platforms. I only have so much time.

People are coming "HERE", it is nice to see you "HERE" as well. Hope to see different issues users are facing "HERE" to be resolved soon. My apologies to the developer, but so far, BLURT isn't making an excellent effect while surfing through the posts.
