Hello from the mountains of Panama!

A little about me:

  • I am a mama to 6 kids - my oldest is 13 and my youngest is almost 3.

  • My family and I live in the mountains of Panama and we love it here!

  • We are originally from Texas, but we moved for many reasons - I can get into that later!

  • We have many animals and life is always busy - a milk cow, 3 goats, 2 sheep, 3 dogs, 2 cats, about 30 chickens, 2 ducks, a rabbit...

278262160_673423003993515_200166251256672306_n.jpg

  • My husband is an architect and we are developing a community here. He has so many projects that he is working on - including container apartments, a 70 foot tall tower, and a village area.

  • I homeschool my kids, and always have except for the one year we sent them to public school in Panama to learn Spanish.

  • I am a former Spanish teacher, but my kids and husband really don't know or speak the language. Oooooops!!

  • We love our expat community here in Panama and see most of our friends every week - most at a Bible study we host in our home every Friday evening.

I just found out about Blurt today thanks to @world-travel-pro. I was looking through the people I follow on Hive (from my Steemit days), and I found his blog. It was talking about what was going on with Hive (I just started blogging there a few weeks ago after taking off almost 3 years), and I read quite a few posts. Then I got interested in Blurt and wanted to open an account. I then realized I already had an account! Pretty cool. So, here I am!

I look forward to sharing more on here and finding many new friends! Here's to many more blog posts in the future and fun times! I'm excited to be here!

Some things Blurt has going for it:

No downvoting, friendly vibe, and no insiders controlling the reward pool. While Hive is going backwards, Blurt is growing. I've been pleasantly surprised by the sense of community.

PS - those little charges for everything, at first I thought they were not good, but now I see how they stop bots and spam - they are a turn off to new users with no Blurt tokens in their wallet - but new users only have to ask someone with an account - lots of people are happy to transfer some tokens to get new accounts started

Thanks for the welcome @frot and @ultravioletmag! All those little charges are pretty annoying, but I am trying it out by just doing what I normally do - leaving thoughtful comments and likes, etc. Then I'll see how it goes. I appreciate that it keeps the bots and lame comments away! I still need to look around a little on here, but life is super busy and I'm trying not to spend all day online. Ha! Thanks again and I look forward to more fun and posts on here!

I actually like the charges, once you have a bit of blurt its barely anything I even go back in and pay to edit a spelling error sometimes lol I just try not to focus on it really and I think it's a better way of dealing with spam than downvotes.

it also stops the hive guys from spamming it cause they would have to actually buy blurt to come over here and comment

Yes ppl just send random gifts, send newbies blurt, pay for new accounts here, it’s rly unique I hope it doesn’t get spoilt

Same to begin you might think blurt has less posts/ don’t earn as much and enjoy hive for a few months but wether it takes months or years, eventually you will find hive a toxic cesspitt of targeted downvoting of yourself or your friends. If you defend anyone or comment about someone getting unfairly targeted to 0, you’ll just be next. It becomes a negative place to spend ones time. It wouldn’t matter so much if it’s individuals but it’s coordinated by a group of whales you cannot compete with and see it as fun.

If you look around on blurt I think it has some of the best and most interesting/ unique posts in any blockchain social cause all the freedom lovers and people who want deep, authentic chat come here, you don’t just get ‘ nice photo’ over and over.

I rly believe stocking up on blurt now is an investment.

The total value of a crypto is based in communities... Like it or not...
Motivation of money is exactly why HIVE seems more valuable... To sum. 🤬🥓

Hi @apanamamama. You certainly made the right choice with Blurt and I am so happy to have helped be a part of that :)

I love Pananama and I love your lifestyle! I think it is beautiful, natural, and wholesome! With six kids, a cow, ducks and more! What an amazing setting for your children to grow up in. Having learned and taught Spanish along with homeschooling and moved to Central America to Homestead. Wow. You must be a strong leader and that is exactly what we need more of here on Blurt.

I'd be happy to support any homesteading curation group led by you in the form of delegation or any other ideas you may have. Maybe you can introduce crypto economics/saving & investing via Blurt to your curriculum and share it with the community.

Or just post here like most people do and have a great time. But I am certainly impressed with your lifestyle and I know it takes a strong willed person to do as you are and I congratulate you and your husband for that.

However you choose to participate you have my full support. Happy you are here. Welcome to Blurt!

Yes, we love it here! The kids all have "animal chores" each day. Not sure they love it, but they are at least learning about animals and how to care for different ones. We just got rid of three of our goats last week - decided it was TOO MUCH WORK to have that many!! We want the kids to be raised in a culture that is not entertainment oriented like it is in the US. We enjoy the culture here very much. Good idea for the curation group. I'll have to think about it. Life is crazy around here and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to invest online... Thanks for the friendly welcome! 😀

That all sounds really good. I'd pay top dollar for some goat cheese. I traveled through Panama a few years ago. Spent about two weeks there mostly in the capital and Bocas del Torro. I think you made a good decision. As I've been well aware for a long time that Pananama has some great expat communities like yours. I spent about 6 month in Vilcabamba Ecuador which has become quite well known as a healthy living expat kind of place.

Anyway, as it's written all over my article you saw, yes the "entertainment" culture is totally toxic on basically horrific levels. So enjoy all things Pananama. And I'm looking forward to supporting whatever you do here on Blurt!

We went to Bocas for the first time in March. It was not our favorite place!! I think we went during the wrong season though - it rained pretty much the whole time. And it was expensive due to there being 10 of us trying to get around in taxis (since our car missed the ferry)! It was an experience for sure! I haven't heard about the town in Ecuador. Sounds cool. We are here for the long haul. My husband said he has a "20 year plan" for our neighborhood. 🙃

Wow. That is amazing. You can really build something that lives on forever in those twenty years. I'm still yet to choose a location for where I may settle, but right now traveling through Thailand I'm learning first hand about the many options this country has to offer.

Yes, Bocas del Torro was a disappointment for me too :/

I much prefer places like Playa del Carmen in Mexico near Cancun.
