Blurt - An Idiot's Guide

in informationwar •  2 years ago  (edited)

Hi, Karen here (allegedly)
Want to learn how blurt works?
Forget it. Stay in your box doing the one thing people think you're good at and whatever you do don't ask pertinent questions.
Like - what is a promoted content creator badge, how do you get one and who is promoting what and why? Does this work the same as ads where you pay to promote yourself? I genuinely would love to know but my question was ignored. A blurt search brings up nothing either.

image.png

One of the most highly respected bloggers on here who gets promoted for whatever reason by who knows who, seems to have gotten out on the wrong side of the bed and made a whole post to mock me for my ignorance of how blurt works and the politics (which I openly state I am completely ignorant about).

Instead of answering my genuine questions he laughed at my post yet went on to make a whole post out of it AND it is 'promoted content' according to the nice blue badge.

Apart from that the promoted content has a glaring grammatical error in the title.
Karen would fix that -
"I'm *too busy to

I have many questions about blurt and sometimes ask them but rarely get an answer that makes sense in plain English.

So to all those others out there who are not part of this clique I guess the answer is to scramble around in the dark and don't pop your head over the parapet if you don't want to get shot in the head.

Don't back ANY horses in case you back the wrong one and end up trampled in the shit storm. I am not voting any witnesses until someone tells me what exactly I am voting for and why I should.

I will reblog and upvote anyone I want to but especially if they are an underdog or questioning 'authority' because that's who I am.

image.png

By the way being called a Karen is quite a serious and nasty slur -

"Karen is a pejorative slang term for an obnoxious, angry, entitled, and often racist middle-aged white woman who uses her privilege to get her way or police other people’s behaviors."

and in this case was a total backfire coming from someone who believes we should all pay our taxes like good little citizens.

I'm neither blond (unless you count grey), entitled, middle-aged (well past the middle) or privileged (not to mention racist!) unless you count being white as privileged (which is racist). I have no idea who the other 'Karen' was he mentioned without mentioning. (Passive aggressive much). Who are you 'other karen', do show your face. We can sit and cry together in our coffee over lunch sometime if you like. Crocodile tears tho as no I was not triggered, don't project your own triggering onto me.

One question I had was regarding 'the founders' not upvoting me. I was told that they have upvoted me using 'curation accounts'. Well that was an old question I asked long ago and got pretty much gobbledegook back so how was I to know how curation works. Curators in real life organize works of art in a gallery. That is not the same as upvoting to me but at least that question was answered albeit in a very derogatory way leading to the 'entitled' and 'Karen' slurs. Why hide their votes behind a 'curation account' anyway?

I am grateful for my upvotes. Very grateful but as I pointed out all my big votes come from the very whales that everyone is claiming are harming Blurt. Should I not be grateful for them? None of them have harmed me personally so why should I be pitted against them? I am only judging from my own personal experience not from 2nd hand accounts and long threads of infighting which few can actually understand. (Clearly I and many others do not either).

I do find Blurt secretive and cliquey because they are. They speak in their own secretive language of DPOS and FUD and teccy terms because they think they sound clever. The same way that the church used latin and modern medicine uses latin and new made up acronyms to keep us all in the dark.

They hold secret meetings behind closed virtual doors. Why do we only get to see the conversations they want us to see? It's not like any of us would understand what they're talking about in their secret meetings if we can't understand their public announcements. Or maybe we could and that's why.

So all you spectators out there struggling on Blurt, whatever you do don't rock this particular boat, in fact maybe it's best to not rock anything. Stick to health and safety rules and stay safe.
Keep schtum like the blurt logo tells you to.

image.png says it all really doesn't it.

On a lighter note I think we need a bit of this right now - enjoy

The "promoted content" badge is different for each frontend. It's controlled by whoever runs the frontend. You would need to ask the operator of the frontend how they choose which post gets promoted and if they have some sort of system where you can pay to have your post promoted or something like that.

If I remember correctly, blurtlatam is operated by @freakeao and @vickyguevara. They could better answer how it works on blurtlatam.

Thank you for the mention, this badge is not related to any kind of payment, collection, promotion or obtaining money. As previously mentioned, a year ago an experiment was made to highlight all those authors who made their own original content for the platform. In hive there are these badges in order to highlight in the communities the role of each person here works very similar, there you find administrators, witnesses, founders and others.

This badge does not mean that you are receiving money or charge for obtaining it, nor is it related to the foundation as previously stated.

So the badges were handed out a year ago? I've only actually seen 2 people with this badge. A lot of newbies have come in and write their own content for Blurt.
Thanx for clarifying, I am educated at last.
But wait, it says on the badge they are 'promoted' yet you say they're not promoted? Which is it. Does this badge not do what it says on the tin?
Still confused........

There are many people who have this tag, some active, others may no longer be on the platform. Just by looking at the history I can notice some authors that contain it. My answer as to why they were created in the following link.

I actually saw your comment after I'd written this post and commented under it yes. So to my original question is it ok to use the badge and the influence it confers to attack other users in the way PT did in his post? It doesn't look good to me or my reputation here.
If you say the badges do not reflect any kind of 'promotion' why does it say it is 'promoted content'. Just the use of the badge and the word is promotion.
Maybe your badges should be updated or something?

While I have you here, do you think it's ok to promote someone who is blatantly harassing and attacking two of your female members? I'm not asking for myself cz that would be a Karen thing to do LOL but @ultravioletmag was also harassed by this individual in the same post. I've been to look at the alleged thread he alludes to and he twisted her words too.
If this is the kind of content worthy of 'promotion' then forget FUD harming Blurt, it's the 'bitchiness' and trolling that's driving the little people away not FUD.
I've just discovered blurtlatam's mute function thanx to CTime which I have now used.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

I’m glad to see you agree here. I can understand someone getting the wrong end of the stick but once I explained what I meant it seemed rediculous. half way through the conversation I realised I was trying to brush it over and be nice then I thought hold on this guy is trying to completely twist what I’m saying and make me feel bad lol.
Like I said above I feel intuitively he’s in a hard place in life right now and probably got pretty hurt by some woman or something and it’s sad it’s beint taken out on us but I think it’s bwst to just stay away as you say while he goes through what he is. I am sure we are not the only ones that have seen a change in him recently and I genuinely hope he finds a happier space.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

Yes he does seem to have completely changed but I am not as forgiving as you. From past experience it doesn't pay to be nice to those who attack you. It just makes them angrier. My way of staying out is to block them all, a bit like the naughty step lol. I will wait for an apology and only then think about talking again. I have my own sanity to protect. I'm one tough cookie and love a good debate but what he did was not debate. It was 'my way or the highway' when his highway was very dodgy.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

  ·  2 years ago  ·   (edited)

I’m forgiving at a distance I haven’t even seen or read the post and just don’t engage if he wishes to apologise and accept that he got the wrong end of the stick completely and was just in a bad place I’ll be like ok cool. Otherwise then I’ll forgive from a distance haha it’s much lighter on the soul to not hold a grudge it’s like holding burning coals as they say. I’m sure he thinks he’s done nothing wrong at all tho so I’ll be waiting a long time. Haha I even apologised if he missunderstood my message so I did more than my part haha

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

Oh I'm not holding a grudge and yes I know all about the power of forgiveness I just do not want to talk to someone who is so stuck in his own issues. Like you say just keeping a distance. Don't need it, I have enough dealing with other things more important to me than this. As do you.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

yeah same as I keep a distance from the faggot guy as you can't have any kind of rational debate with someone who calls you a faggot in every reply lol and a bunch of other profanities

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

  ·  2 years ago  ·   (edited)

Lololol! "It's not me its you". Classic deflection. They're forgiven and forgotten, ignore, lol!

  ·  2 years ago  ·   (edited)

Haha I even apologised if he missunderstood my message so I did more than my part haha

How does one apologize about something you hold them responsible for? "I apologize you think something that I didn't mean to make you think", that's how.

You either apologize for what you did, what you said, or you simply insult the other by apologizing for what they heard and interpreted.

Yes freakeo already answered this one thanx.

Outraged Karen Signal is outraged that she was refused service, demands she speak to a manager, calls people fascist, is offended to be called a Karen, and thinks promoted is a conspiracy. Outraged Karen has called people psycho for consuming meat, claimed that Greenbacks were Sound Money, touted her blogging in regards to vaccines as superior to content vastly more complete and delivered by a Doctor and regarded herself as in it for education, NOT CRYPTO, yet she's to exemplify either as she refused to inform herself by seeking the pertinent avenues for the questions she has and seems offended that her "edumecation" isn't more rewarded than it is, all while claiming that she has no interest or desire for politiking yet cheers on vicious attacks aimed at the character of the major stakeholders, resteeming some, and did I mention she thinks it's Fascism?

I am grateful for my upvotes. Very grateful but as I pointed out all my big votes come from the very whales that everyone is claiming are harming Blurt

The so-called "foundation," puppet witnesses and people like PT think that criticism of their actions is bad for Blurt because it affects the price of BLURT. That's why initiatives such as the elimination of the trending page on blurt.blog (in my opinion, it's censorship) and the extended mute function were created. Assumptions of these people are wrong. In my opinion, discussion of controversial topics or even criticism of megardive's actions can encourage people to sign up for accounts on Blurt. Freedom of speech is something that many people are looking for these days. Unfortunately, after what blurt.blog has turned into (into a shit) it can be seen that megadrive, PT and many witnesses behave like scammers for whom the most important thing is the price of "BLURT"

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

Freedom of speech is fine, spreading Fear Uncertainty and Doubt, much like crying wolf, isn't productive. Yeah, you'll get a crowd, but what will you do when that crowd recognizes the FUD as lies? O yeah, exactly what you're doing, doubling down and gathering your "audience", yet not convincing anyone else.

I just had a look at the blurt.blog trending page again and it now shows one single post with a button to 'load more posts' which brings up one more post. What's that all about now? It looks like an empty page. It's ridiculous.
As for all the 'debates' going on, yes, I think people do like to watch a fight. Why wrestling and boxing is so popular, even most sports so if something is interesting to the general public who never get to see what goes on in 'secret meetings' then of course it makes Blurt a more interesting place. I don't think it affects the price detrimentally at all, but then what would I know in my blurt/politics ignorance.

Who cares about Trending…. Just earn buckets and buckets of Blurt crypto that you can use to buy up all the land in Ireland. Pretty soon Blurt is going to be worth more than the Euro and British Pound …. I know that some of the Communists don’t like the money, but it’s good to have crypto to buy up all the land.

That's not the front trending page, it's the blurt tag trending page coz I have blurt in the title. Take off 'blurt' after the /trending/ bit. If it's still there then I'll agree it's on trending.
Just checked and it's not so less of your trickery.

  ·  2 years ago  ·   (edited)

That is very true.

You have to be in the Inner Sanctum of the Inner Sanctum to make Trending on Blurt.

Blurt.blog does that to me too it’s buggy as hell for me and doesn’t work on many fronts including that. I like blurtlatam

Thanx I'd never seen these faqs before and the majority of it I kinda worked out myself or from other users but this bit was useful

Altho then it goes on to say Proof of work is not actually used on blurt.
I have an issue with going to discord for info on blurt as I got a strike on there simply for being in a certain group which was thrown off there. Nothing to do with Blurt BTW a totally different censored site.
My particular questions, apart from the witness one, can't be answered by a faq bot post but it is useful for complete newbs.
I don't want to write a post about it either, plenty of people have that posting niche, not my thang. This post was a one-off to deal with a personal attack from one of your 'promoted content-creators' which makes it look to all and sundry as if Blurt condones this kind of post attacking 2 women on Blurt.

Attacked by a post that never even mentions you, "personally attacked".

You have been impressed by the packaging of the respective advertising messages of the crypto-based channels. In advertising, it is the case that it only emphasises the positive features of a product and leaves aside those that cause controversy or are perceived as negative. Lucy has worked himself up over the fact that these advertising promises have not been fulfilled.

Yet the very word "proof of stake" says it all. If you want to transfer technical explanations, which are not wrong, to the social aspects, it becomes different, even wrong. Those with the highest stakes determine the functions and governance of the blockchain/blogosphere. That is a fact. That is not going to change. Can you be okay with that?

The majority in the witness circle has the final say in the internal witness votes. The highest ranking witnesses can vote against or in favour of changes/implementations in votes and they are of course subject to opinion, like any human being. There is no such thing as a just code. There are only seamless data blocks that show transparency of transactions made, i.e. like a tax report where the stake is proven. Think of it as an accounting system that is almost unbreakable/unhackable (but not impossible).

Think of this sphere like a public limited company where the shareholders have voting rights according to the amount of their shares. There is nothing decentralized about this in the sense of those who hold no shares or only such small shares that their votes hardly carry any weight in terms of their financial power. The common man therefore only has the possibility to offer his view of things to those who provide the governance through argumentation and participation in the processes.

As long as you have diplomatic skills, staying power, patience and an understanding of this form of existence, you can influence governance. If you want to have a much greater say in the fate of the system, you will have to buy large parts of the currency.

You will hardly impress someone with being interested in your stance if you do not have enough expertise and professionalism at his level of knowledge. He will not take you seriously. Similarly, if you have to deal with someone who is not knowledgeable within your largest area of expertise and has, from your point of view, naïve interjections. It would of course be desirable to treat everyone with patience and understanding. Since no one can always do that, we have conflicts.

The advertising is unfortunately very misleading, for example the term "decentralised" is used inflationarily and is confused with a governmentless sphere. This can be seen as not entirely clean, but I mean, who in the modern world really believes in the truthfulness of advertising? You certainly don't, so why should it be any different here?

You are the voice of reason mrs erh. I am NOT looking to get involved in the politics of blurt. As you point out I'm clearly not cut out for it neither do I want to LOL. I only comment on these things from a personal perspective when something affects me personally as in this case of a whole post dedicated to mocking me for putting my personal perspective and asking questions.
I am happy to leave the workings of administrating blurt to others of course but they need to be transparent and unbiased.
Also if Blurt doesn't do what it says on the tin then change the advert or change the modus operandii so they match rather that contradict. The contradictions lead to confusion and a feeling of being duped.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

I have commented on megadrives reply to a dev, and copy you some of it in here - the whole comment you can see here.

From a marketing point of view,
"decentralisation" may have been a scoop, but as we have all seen, it has caused more trouble than it has benefited, as people either intentionally or unintentionally throw around advertising terms that sound good but are not factually true.

From a PR perspective, I would recommend getting off this misguided bandwagon of "decentralisation" and instead promote the actual benefits of Blurt more prominently, such as the fact that there are no downvotes and no thumbs down here.

It would also be great if the blogger could switch off the comment function, as is now possible on some other platforms. Was this not something you already considered?

Furthermore, I have always wondered why guest comments are not possible from non-account users who simply want to drop by and comment on posts without receiving a vote. Is that technically possible? From my point of view it would increase traffic and even motivate a previous non-account holder to open an account on Blurt. That would express a low barrier.

Oh I love the guests commenting idea, that would be a boon for me. I had to mute someone the other day for posting so many silly comments on my post. Even tho it looks good on a counter it looks terrible to outsiders coming in to read. For that reason I wouldn't necessarily stop all comment personally (I love the comments section) but can control who can and can't comment by muting? Or did I get that wrong too?

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

I think a wide variation of ways to manage your blog is always good. If I want to have a publication without comments because I won't have time to respond to comments, for example. Or because the controversy of the topic is assessed by me in such a way that I prefer to do without a possibly highly emotional comments section. I prefer to decide by single blog posts which way to go.

I can't say much about the muting function because I only muted someone back in the early days of Steemit. I don't have any experience with it here, but personally I don't do it because I think everything can be clarified for me in another way or I simply ignore what I can't stand or handle.

I have muted baah because he does not bring anything to the table and his behavior is almost always aggressive and obnoxious but I'm wondering if his comments can be seen by everyone else? Do you see them on here? He's still commenting away.

What do you think?

I am happy to leave the workings of administrating blurt to others of course but they need to be transparent and unbiased.

I think transparency is good, but it only goes so far. Both are necessary, on the one hand that the blogger proactively informs himself and understands the sphere here in its basic functions, on the other hand that the witnesses make themselves transparent and keep one informed, if possible in a language that the non-technical person understands.

Impartiality, I think only Buddhist monks get that right (LOL) or other saints. Everyone else has bias, you, me and the rest of the unholy ;-)

No of course we can't get rid of bias but what I meant was not to shout out their biased comments and views using their status as backing. If you get my drift.
A bit like politicians who give us one rule but another for themselves or simply flout their own rules because they can.

Posted from https://blurtlatam.com

If you examine your sentence, you may find that the second part contradicts the first. If we don't get rid of bias, then biased comments and views happen. That is a happening without end. Each one of us has limitations and each one of us has blind spots. If it were otherwise, there would be no conflicts and animosities. You don't want anyone to be prejudiced against you, that's quite clear. Your counterpart doesn't want that either. But it happens. And when it happens, it leads to conflict - at times very intense ones. It is inevitable.
If you observe other people from a third position, you have probably experienced that you recognise two positions that do not move away from the one expressed. But you see others and you see possible alternatives. Sometimes you say something about it, sometimes you leave it alone. Depending on the situation.

It is easy to agree and to like each other. It is also easy to disagree but difficult to still like each other. But that's the point in having meaningful relationships. I think. When I can accept that, it becomes easy again :)

No I meant making a post with a badge saying 'promoted content creator' is using a kind of status symbol to give his statements more validity to the 3rd parties. His point of view is automatically accepted as true because he is perceived as being backed by authority. I'm not talking about just comments on a post. He could have dealt with this in his own comments but he chose to go public and use his 'badge'.

He didn't mock you. But then again you take criticism even as its stripped of naming you once, as a personal attack. Instead of recognizing criticism for what it is you'd rather lie and pretend.

I would not worry about anything anyone else says. We are both doing very well on here with all the Upvotes we get from all the big blurt whales. Don’t be bothered by any Right wing nut jobs, snowflakes or brain washed midwits. Lol 😂 You will soon be a multi millionaire like me.

ah yes but that's where we differ. I'm not a crypto collector nor did I come here originally for that. I look at the blurtcoins as a way to pump reputation, get my work seen so I'm not preaching to the choir, to make my own upvotes count for more. I've never traded any of my blurt for other crypto's or cashed out, not that I have much to cash out. I don't see anyone except the elite being 'millionaires' soon with the reset. We're all to be under 'social credit scoring' which is actually much like the system on here if censorship, (by any other name) NSFW and talk of freezing accounts is anything to go by. Posting things you think will be popular to earn credits was not my aim, altho some people are now claiming that's a lie on my part.
I've only this week put up a wallet on my wordpress because people have said I should. That would be me earning money from my articles, not blurt. I never really saw blurtcoins as actual money in the real world. We'll see.

Well… I cashed out a ton of Blurt and other crypto last May and bought a car. So it’s definitely real money. Soon I will have enough to buy a bunch of land …anywhere in the world.

Lots of people say they don’t need the money, but it sure is nice to have lots of crypto to buy food, and land and a few toys.

You will soon be a millionaire with your Blurt crypto. Just Hodl until it reaches $ 1…

Not for the money though …. For the food and land and other stuff.

Also …I love all the FUD … Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt created on Blurt … it keeps the price super duper cheap so we can buy it all up for almost nothing.

You wont be buying any land in NZ for 81k....lol....try 10x that amount to get started

You do realise pine is a natural herbicide? So it will only be suitable for growing more pine for the next 20 years.

Apart from that there is a reason 5 million kiwis are not snapping up that bargain...

Location, location, location.

Its certainly off grid though!

Yes …. I would plant a blueberry farm. They love acidic soil.

Acid-Loving Fruits

Homestead-favorite acid-loving fruits include cranberries, blueberries, elderberry, huckleberries, thimbleberries, and gooseberries, all of which perform best in soil with a pH of 4.0 to 5.0.

Acid-Loving Vegetables

Sweet corn and cucumbers also like acidic soil, doing well in soil with a pH of 5.5 to 7.5…. Beans, broccoli, turnips and tomatoes, squash, and onions.

I'm sure it would work like a charm and that is a nice place to live as well - lol

Acid and Herbicide, two entirely different things. Theres a reason there's absolutely no blueberry or pretty much anything else in a pine forest, I have a bit of pine woods, and I've been among the Giant Sequoias, guess what, only ferns and an odd shrub.

I could hardly buy a car (even a 2ndhand old banger, for what I have in blurt LOL. Have to keep powering up to get there. Still a long way to go for me.

Well… all the drama here in Blurt is absolutely frickin awesome. It keeps the price super duper low so you can buy it for almost zero on Ionomy and Hive- Engine. Buy millions for Free and then sell 1/2 when it Hits $1 …. You will be able to buy a few cars and some land in Ireland and the Bahamas. That’s what I’m doing. The losers sell their Blurt for almost nothing …. It’s hilarious.

Tell that to the people in Africa where money is precious. You are a mockery to aspirations: blog to be a billionaire. If you want to be rich, go be a banker, a la @neoxian.

I actually used to really like practical thought and lately he has just completely changed. I’m going to try and show some empathy as my intuition feels that it might be to do with having a really tough job he hates atm and some woman absolutely must have hurt him or money grabbed. But for now I’ll just stay away and not bother reading the post and hope everything gets better for him soon.
