Binance Chain today announced a first Defi-focused hackathon & accelerator program in Bharat named "Build for Bharat".
For the people who ain't familiar with the name Bharat, please note that it is another official (as well as ancient) name for the country known as "India"
Binance is expecting participation from many teams from which it will shortlist 100 team for its Genesis cohort.
With such events, Binance hopes to bring blockchain for mass adoption. This is a very important gesture to develop blockchain ecosystem in India, given the political uncertainities regarding the legal guidelines and regulations surrounding this technology.
The hackathon is focused around the buzz word Defi but will also include projects including innovative blockchain use cases, fiat-to-digital asset gateway solutions, payment and remittance solutions, trading platforms, digital asset wallets and stablecoins.
On a side note, I really don't know why everything is labelled as Defi these days. I sometimes wonder if decentralized oracle projects like LINK, BAND, DIA or even PRQ etc. should be classified under Defi segment. They should be classified under a different category ...may be called as dOracle. Oracles have got a very wide scope than just some Defi usecase. And it does deserve its very own classification!
Anyways, I understand that everyone wants to capitalize on the word "Defi" these days. If using that word alone can bring name, fame and money; who cares what it means anyway!
The effort of Binance along with all other sponsors for creating a platform for Indian cryptopreneurs is a welcome initiaitve and hopefully, it will contribute to change the blockhain landscape in India.
If you're willing to participate in this event, register yourself here before 11th September.
