Pot marigold also known as Calendula is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family native to the Mediterranean region but widely cultivated elsewhere. It has bright yellow or orange flowers that bloom in the summer and autumn. The petals of the flowers are edible and are often used in salads and as a garnish for soups and other dishes. In addition to its ornamental uses Calendula has a long history of medicinal use, with its petals and oils used for a variety of purposes including the treatment of skin conditions wounds and menstrual cramps. The plant is easy to grow and is often grown in pots hence its name Pot marigold.
