Maria Kaczynska was a Polish linguist,academic,and the wife of Lech Kaczynski,who was the President of Poland from 2005 until his death in 2010.She was also the First Lady of Poland during her husband's presidency.Kaczynska was born in Machnowka,Poland,and studied linguistics at the University of Warsaw.She went on to become a professor at her alma mater,where she specialized in the history of the Polish language.As First Lady,Kaczynska was known for her interest in Polish history and culture,as well as her support for charitable causes.She was also involved in various international organizations,Such as the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization,where she served as a member of the Executive Board from 2006 to 2009.Tragically,Kaczynska died in a plane crash in Smolensk,Russia,on April 10, 2010,along with her husband and 94 other people,including many high-ranking Polish officials.The crash occurred as the group was traveling to attend a commemoration of the Katyn massacre,in which thousands of Polish prisoners of war were murdered by Soviet forces during World War II.The crash was widely mourned in Poland and around the world,and Kaczynska's legacy as an academic and First Lady continues to be remembered.
