Lespedeza bicolor,commonly known as bicolor lespedeza or shrub lespedeza,is a deciduous flowering shrub native to Japan,Korea,and China.It belongs to the family Fabaceae and can grow up to 6-8 feet tall with a similar spread.The leaves are dark green, alternate,and trifoliate with each leaflet being 1-2 inches long.The flowers are pink to purple in color and appear in late summer to early fall,growing in clusters on the tips of the branches.The fruits are small,dry pods containing one to three seeds.Bicolor lespedeza is often planted for its attractive ornamental features,including its pink to purple flowers and its foliage,which turns yellow in the fall.It is also useful for erosion control,wildlife habitat,and as a food source for quail and other birds.It grows best in full sun and well-drained soils,and is tolerant of drought and poor soil conditions.
