The Fruit Fly

Hello #BLURT Family. How are you all?
The fly is the common name for a group of insects in the genus Diptera. The actual flies are members of the Brachycera subfamily and include common house flies, bites, fruit flies, Tsetse flies, and more. Except for a few species of wingless flies, other flies have only a pair of wings that are suitable for flying. The hind wings have been altered to form a balancing haltare appendage.Common fly species in Bangladesh include house fly (Musca domestica), small fly (Lesser house fly, Fannia canicularis), stinging fly (Stable fly, Stomoxys), bluefly or blowfly (Blue bottle or Blow fly, Calliphora species), Green bottle fly, Lucilia species, Flashfly(Flesh fly, Sarcophaga species) etc.Outdoor flies include: Black fly, Deer fly, Chrysops, Horse fly, Hover fly, Daddy long leg or Crane fly, etc. Sandflies (Phlebotomus) live indoors and outdoors.

Flies are better known as harmful. House flies spread cholera and typhoid germs. Fruit flies damage fruits and vegetables. Some flies are beneficial as parasites of harmful insects. Which causes pollination of flowers.

There is very little information about what kind and how many species of flies there are in Bangladesh. Many species have been identified from garbage and from fruits and flowers and homesteads.

Damp litter is a breeding ground for flies. Flies of the flyfly group spread Myiasis disease in domesticated animals. Psychodidae sandflies carry the kala-azar virus. The disease caused by protozoa is rapidly returning to Bangladesh. They cause small wounds (oriental sores). Sandflies are ubiquitous near human habitation in rural Bangladesh and breed in damp, dark and dirty places. Tabanid flies carry the anthrax bacterium, a common disease in domestic animals. Blackflies of the genus Simuliidae are extremely annoying to people in mountainous areas. These flies breed in the fast flowing river water. Shallow ponds in the vast plains of Bangladesh are breeding grounds for small mosquito-biting Ceratopogonid flies, which attack prey in the evening. Syrphid fly larvae cause intestinal myiasis, although there is little information about them in Bangladesh. Four species of tephritid fruit flies (Dacus) cause severe damage to fruits and vegetables in Bangladesh.

Flies cause a number of deadly diseases in Bangladesh. In the northern part of the country inhabited by kala-azar, a project has been adopted to spray pesticides indoors. [KM Nurul Huda]

The fruit fly is the common name of a diverse group of members of the genus Tephritidae. They eat a variety of fruits and vegetables and breed in them. These flies are more numerous in the tropics. Fruit flies are 1-15 mm long, they are also called ‘peacock flies’, because their whole body and wings glow different colors when they walk and flutter their wings. Mediterranean fruit flies or Medfly, Ceratitis capitata, Oriental fruit flies and watermelon fruit flies are the most harmful fruit flies in the world.

All members of the whole family Tephritidae are herbivores, eating everything from bacteria to the juice of higher flowering plants. They are divided into 4 groups on the basis of the type of plant consumption by larvae: 1. As a result, especially the fleshy fruit contains dacines and a few trypetines; 2. Compositae square petals contain most teprhritines and some myopities, 3. Some teprhritines and trypetines pierce the leaves and stems; And 4. Oedaspidines and some trypetines cause rashes on different parts of the plant.

The most important fruit flies belong to the first group. In many parts of the world, they cause considerable damage to fruits, vegetables and flowers. There are five important species of Dacus in Bangladesh: Dacus (Zeugodacus) cucurbitae, Dacus (Zeugodacus) tau, Dacus (Hemigymnodacus) diversus, Dacus (Bactrocera) dorsalis and Dacus (Bactrocera) zonatus.

Cucurbitaceae are mainly young fruits belonging to the genus Cucurbitaceae, which are known as vegetables. Occasionally ripe mangoes, kamaranga and guava fruits are also bred.

In Bangladesh, watermelon fruit is most seen in September and less in December. Dacus (Hemigymnodacus) flies are highest in February-March and low in October and Dacus (Bactrocera) flies are high in September and low in January. Among the different types of vegetables, the attack of fruit fish on sweet pumpkin is excessive.
