Back To Basics?

IT MAY BE TIME TO BECOME A FARMER

The economy has gone to shit. There's just no polite way of saying it. It's even worse than that. I think we are still somewhat being shielded by all the debt the government created to bail everyone out of the inevitable. So, while things might appear rosier on the surface, if you place your finger on the pulse of the nation on the street level, things are dire.

I am working from a cafe this morning and stuck up a conversation with my barista. She's the only one working here all day today. I asked here how she's going to take a break. She doesn't know. No breaks. I'm not sure that's legal. Her manager said they just "can't afford" more staff. No money.

I've had this "no money" conversation with way too many people this week so far. The situation is grim. The crazy part is that many people don't actually realise how bad things are about to get. They think they're the only ones having a "temporary" money issue. They don't realise the entire planet is in financial trouble.

I have had almost as many conversations with people about agriculture - that is, actually becoming a farmer. Going back to the land for sustenance. After all, when all these numbers reset to zero, and paper money loses meaning, it is finite but critical resources like land (hence shelter, food and water) that will be left. The earth itself.

Do you own land? It may be time to consider cultivating it. Perhaps even developing some off-grid shelter. The only problem with that is, of course, security. See, the thing with humanity is this. When your own system fails an option is always to take over someone else's - either passively or by force.

I'm going to lie, the "land and guns" people in the United States are starting to look less crazy to me everyday.

I do have claim to some ancestral land somewhere, but I have no idea where it is. It's probably sitting in some deep forest somewhere, difficult to access, or even taken over by nomads since it's been abandoned for so long. I may take a reconnaissance trip in the near future to see what can come of it. Maybe I'll start a farm cultivating some low-effort cash crops like cashews and almonds. That's an idea.

Besides, there probably are already some crops growing wild on the land. The region is known for its cocoa and cola trees - both main ingredients in chocolate and Coca Cola respectively. There's every probability that the land is already producing an annual yield of crops in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, with zero management.

In the mean time, WTF is going on with the world!? 99.99999% of us just want world peace and a happy life. If that's not consensus, I don't know what is. If so many of us agree on something, why can't we just make it happen? Why is the 0.00001% running (and ruining) everything for the overwhelming majority?

Peace & Love,

Adé

Totally hear you. And I also see that people really focus on the lack. When there still many things to be grateful for.
Working in catering though, has never been a place of fairness. I myself have spent years back in the days, working in bars, cafes, restaurants;
And they never really respected their workers. Brakes were "luxury", and you had to rush, and in many cases, even though the place had food, you had to pay for it, or at least choose the cheap options, as you are not allowed the nice things. They make you feel so unworthy.
You are often on your feet for 12 hours and work really hard, and people with the big bucks, come in and complain they are not being served fast enough. Its just a really nasty environment.
There are excemption, of course. And i have had some good experiences, although mostly not. . .

As for getting land and growing your own food. . .for many it is so not possible. Nothing to start with. No funds, but also no help. These things can not be done alone.
This is why we need to return to live in communities, but i feel we are not ready. . . People with their traumas, projecting their shit, it just always turns into arguments and division.

I personally see a future where it does work. But people need to take radical responsibility for their actions.
Take their part in providing something useful and valuable.
Then trade.
And not compare. All is equal. Whether you have time to share, in which you can help build a house, or i have a field of strawberries; it is all equal.
But i feel many are really not ready for this.

I think that one day mother nature will have enough and do the needful. I think the earth may just purge us and make another go of it with better creatures like dolphins or sheep or something haha. ... or leave just enough of us around to go back to the natural ways.

Alright. Let the Universe decide 🙏🏻💜

You are right but you have missed the point. If you want to farm for money you will fail. You have to focus on cultivating for food not money. For the future and not for now. Very soon money will be worthless, food will be money.

Fair enough. I'm hoping everything won't collapse immediately :). Oh well.

russian nukes can hit the uk in 120 seconds.
so just plan for two minutes.
the rest is gravy :)
(but yeah farming sounds good, food, storage, security, all valid right now!)

Scary stuff. Mind you, I'm not sure he wants the mutual destruction either. British nukes can reach Moscow in the same time. Israel and the US will have even more time to respond. It would be the end of the world.
