What is Starknet?

Based on StarkNet's plan, Starknet is a Validity Rollup Layer 2. It provides high throughput, low gas costs, and retains Ethereum Layer 1 levels of security. It is not clear yet that StarNet could achieve this initial performance.

Given a sudoku puzzle, verifying a solution is easier than solving from scratch. If our goal is to convince people of the statement “this puzzle has been solved”, we can save a lot of computation by having one person compute a solution and then propagate it for others to verify. In this strategy, each computation of a solution becomes a one-time event which does not require replication by society. In a similar vein, Starknet scales Ethereum by replacing heavy L1 computation with lighter. L1 verification using STARK proofs computed off-chain.

How it works

With the above analogy in mind, the time is ripe for some jargon. Starknet is a permissionless Validity-Rollup (also known as a “ZK-Rollup”) that supports general computation and currently operates in production as an L2 network over Ethereum. The eventual L1 security of Starknet is ensured by its use of the safest and most scalable cryptographic proof system – STARK.

Starknet contracts are (for the most part) written in the Cairo language – A Turing complete programming language designed for STARK proofs.

How to Fund StarkNet Account

  • Buying crypto with card or bank transfer in Wallets(Braavos, Argent X)
2 StarkNet wallets has partnered with two crypto on-ramp providers - Ramp and Banxa - to provide a quick and easy way to purchase crypto with local currency.

    1. Open wallets and go to "Deposit"
    2. Choose either Ramp or Banxa
    3. Enter the amount you want to purchase, then complete the payment flow for Ramp or Banxa
    4. Once you’ve paid, your crypto should arrive almost instantly

Depending on the amount you want to purchase, you may be asked to complete KYC (Know Your Customer). Wallets do not store your details, as this is handled by either Ramp or Banxa.

  • Bridging crypto to your StarkNet account with another Ethereum wallet, like Metamask (on Layer 1)

Most wallets don’t support StarkNet yet, luckily, there is an easy way to deposit crypto into your StarkNet wallet from another Ethereum wallet you own using Orbiter Finance or StarkGate.

Orbiter Finance and StarkGate are bridges, which means you can transfer crypto from one network to another quickly, securely and easily.

    1. Open StarkNet wallet, tap “Deposit”.
    2. Choose “Orbiter Finance” or “StarkGate”
    3. Connect your Ethereum wallet, like Metamask, and your StarkNet account (You need to connect both so you can send funds from your Ethereum wallet to StarkNet)
    4. Enter the amount you want to send to StarkNet and confirm the transaction
Your transaction fee will vary based on the network you're bridging funds from. For example, Ethereum is more expensive than zkSync
    5. Your funds will arrive in your Argent X account
  • Sending crypto from an exchange, like Coinbase or Binance, to StarkNet wallet using LayerSwap
You can’t yet send assets to StarkNet directly from a big exchange (e.g. Coinbase, Binance).

Argent X has partnered with LayerSwap so that you can send ETH to StarkNet.

    1. Open StarkNet wallet, tap “Deposit” and choose LayerSwap.
    2. Choose the Exchange you want to send ETH from and the amount
    3. Complete the transaction flow (varies based on the exchange selected)
    4. Once you’ve confirmed your transaction, your funds should have arrived for a small fee
  • Funding your account with another StarkNet wallet
If you have funds in another StarkNet wallet, you can easily transfer them to your desired address.

    1. Open wallet, tap “Receive”.

    2. You will then see your StarkNet address and QR code
      a. Send from (It has to be a StarkNet wallet or you’ll lose money)
      b. Scan the address from the StarkNet wallet you want to send from (It has to be a StarkNet wallet or you’ll lose money)

Confirm the transaction, and once it goes through - your funds will arrive.
