Here comes the end of the Winter season and the winter markets, the last of the season happened yesterday. It was a small market but quiet a vibrant one with a live music band and authentic Omani food. Summer is setting in, getting hotter by the day and soon it will be difficult to step out during day time.
This fair was organized in the courtyard area of Hilton Hotel. There was a balloon decoration done at the entrance. Normally there is no such decor.
The first thing that caught my eye just after entering was this stall of Crystals. The lady was selling some good variety of raw crystals, tumbles and pendants. Nowadays I am seeing in these markets, the crystal trend is setting in. Previously when I would visit these markets, there would hardly be any stalls, but nowadays it has become common, in every market there are minimum 2 stalls of crystals. It's gaining popularity but the one thing I see that it is over priced. My friend visited in one of the previous market where he bought a Black Onyx bracelet, which costed him 40 USD, and the same one I get from India at a cost of 9 USD so you see, the price is 3 times more. The demand is there and there is no local supply so it's becoming a very good business here. I like to support these small time markets, buying things from them, but when it gets priced like this then I do not want to.
It's good to keep profit margins but they should not be so much also that you kind of loot your customers.
After this I saw there were some Pakistani clothes and shoes stalls. Here I found that they were under priced. May be they wanted to remove their stuff since it's last of the season. The sandals were priced at 1 RO which is 2.60 USD. It's like almost free.
The Courtyard has a small pond which was giving a very pleasant look to the place
They were entertaining the children
Our children in the group found their toys. It is so marvelous to see at times that these small children can find joy in anything. Here they were just playing with the stones, and were so happy. I wonder what happens to us as we grow up, why can't we feel the same joy in simple and little things of life.
This live band was entertaining the audience, they were singing all different types of songs, some Bollywood, some English and some Omani. I must say they were multitalented.
Mostly there were all stalls selling clothes and jewelry
There was this one stall which was selling handmade frames. It was pencil sketch work. They were beautiful.
After going around the place then it was food time.
I relished on some Indian savories Pani Puri. It is my favorite. Whenever it is available I never miss having it.
And some grill food and sandwiches.
And there was one stall which was selling Detox water. It was made with all different combinations of cucumber, mint, lemon.
.
I did not buy anything from the market this time, as nothing really attracted me much. But had a good time with friends, and Muscat is a small place, not many places to go out so these kind of things are a good outing for the evening to spend time.
