Funding an Account With Swaps

Last week I told you of my plan to fund my upvotes with a power down. One needs 7 BLURT a week to pay for 70 upvotes. Last week I raised it 10 BLURT

I ended up posting some comments and exhausted my free BLURT.

Should I stop upvoting comments and just wait for the power down?

Since I've been writing about techniques for funding accounts. I decided to buy some SWAP.BLURT and withdrawing it to BLURT.

I've had bad luck with BLURT swaps. I actually lost 4000 BLURT in swaps. Some times the swap program have technical difficulties. When that happens, you lose your BLURT.

Since the swap program is iffy. I think it is best to stick to small swaps.

I decided to buy 10 SWAP.BLURT.

Anyway, I used "Withdraw" button on Hive-Engine. The withdraw feature sent 10 SWAP.BLURT to @graphene-swap on HIVE.

A little bit later I received 9.825 BLURT in my BLURT account from @blurt-swap.

NOTE: If you don't have an HIVE account, you probably should try to secure your account name on HIVE. Since BLURT was created from a hard fork of STEEM and HIVE; people often assume that your user name is active on all three platforms.

The swap is a great way to fund BLURT accounts. In my case, the my upvotes are worth more than the 0.175 BLURT fee. I also have enough BLURT to publish this post and a few comments.

I decided to do a small swap.

As mentioned, when a swap fails, the swap program gets to keep the money and there is absolutely no recourse for the user.

My 10 BLURT cost 1.11 HIVE which is about one USD quarter.

Again, the fundamental flow of swap programs is that when they break, the swap company keeps the coins.

I have no problem losing a quarter. The 4K BLURT i lost in the past was worth about $40.

If you are sending larger amounts, you should check that both the sending end and receiving end of the swap are working.

This is the HE Explorer page for graphene-swap

This is the BLURT Blocks page for blurt-swap. It looks like all of the transactions are going through.

NOTE: It is wise to make sure that the accounts have enough funds to complete the swap.

I lost a bunch of coin using the leodex swap on HIVE. It had run out of coins to complete the swap.

When a swap fails. The company that provides the swap simply keeps the money.

The Images

I generated the pictures on Night Cafe. They show a little boy swapping cookies for presents with Santa.

The top picture is funny. It shows a fire place in the Christmas tree. In the second picture, the boy turns into Santa as he engages in the swap.

Conclusion

If you have a HIVE account, then you can fund your BLURT account by a swap program.

I dislike this approach because when the swap program fails, people lose their money.

I think the method of funding the account through a power down is best because it uses internal features of BLURT and does not depend on a third party.
