And we do the opposite, isn't it ? Crazy Human behavior - there is always the anxious inner thought to try out something which is not recommended. Some may call it stupidity - but I have got quite a bit of memory associated with this plant.

When we started living at our current native place in nineties, we had lot of open spaces and there were lot of these sleepy plants (Mimosa pudica). In my family, mom and me were always hard working, so we always tried to grow our vegetables, by cleaning up small small patches, cleaning out these sleepy plants. Unfortunately, once it's thorns hurt so bad to her wrist that, we had to take her to hospital. It was stuck in the vein and a small surgery was done, and she could not do anything for 2-3 days. My father never cooked earlier, so it was a very difficult situation and we had to survive with only rice and potato (flattened rice sometimes). She still has those scars and it reminds us those days.

I loved to experience our childhood again when I saw this plant in the football ground. This shy plant has got a mythological story associated with it - the heavenly queen Shakuntala had married Rutudhwaja on earth and after some time, she went to travel with his elder brother which is a shame, as in our culture, the bride should never even show her face to the half father-in-law ( yes, groom's elder brother is given that kind of respect) . When Rutudhwaja objected her and she responded shamelessly and that is when, Rutudhwaja cursed her to become a plant, that would shy and close herself when anyone touches. Quite interesting story from Dvapara Yuga, ya, we hear this kind of stories from our ancestors.
