Biological Diversity: Protists

in hive-196037 •  2 months ago

In this video I discuss protists, which are eukaryotic organisms that are not animals, plants, or fungi. Since this classification excludes other eukaryotes (organisms whose cell(s) have a membrane-bound nucleus), it means protists may resemble animals, plants, or fungi more so than they do other protists. The taxonomy of protists is still changing and newer classifications try to present monophyletic groupings.

Time stamps:

  • Protists are eukaryotes that are not animals, plants, or fungi: 0:00
  • Diversity of protists: 2:02
  • Taxonomy of protists is still changing because as a whole they are paraphyletic: 2:26
