Problems Plus 4: Plane Flying in Wind

In this video I calculate the required direction for a plane to fly accounting for the wind velocity such that the ground velocity is due North. I first calculate the wind velocity based on the initial or air velocity and the measured actual ground velocity. Even though a pilot may think they are going due North from the compass, the wind causes the entire plane to drift away from the intended direction. Thus it is important for a pilot to account for the wind velocity.
