I personally like athletic fit women and I have thought a lot about the situation of women competing against each other in sports and stuff. They have been thrown into competition among themselves to garner more elite mates. It isn't a far stretch to think that a star volleyball player has a better chance at getting with one of the stars on the football team either in a high school or college situation or beyond that. Athletic people like to be with athletic people.
When it isn't athletics just in general women are trying to elevate themselves and expect men that are of a higher caliber. Usually it ends up being way misaligned though because they want a man way better than them. More money, more success, more status. When this isn't the case usually we see the situation fall apart. It isn't a one to one ratio out there but at the college sports level it is one to one because of Title 9 making it so there are as many female athletic spots as there are male athletic spots. After that it seems like a lot of women fall off and then when you go to LA Fitness or Gold's Gym in these big cities there are 10 guys to every woman that are in shape. Dude's have to look equivalently better than women. Just like in the animal kingdom.
