#SublimeSunday - Into the Garden!

in hive-193552 •  3 years ago

I could procrastinate no longer and it was time to get into the yard on the first weekend of real summery weather. For the past 5 years, I have been using wood left over from the backyard rink days to build boxes and reclaim space occupied by useless grass.

It started with the big box along the back, then a new box each year til today. No new boxes this year but repairs on the oldest one is in order and the yard looks like a war zone. Sir Digsalot has not been good to the yard this winter and has no concept of where not to goo so this year will be a challenge.

Besides battling the fauna, the flora on the other side of the fence is looking to be mounting an attack.

This is the before picture of the oldest and largest raised box. The bunnies have moved on but the weeds were setting up shop in the dried up soil.

This year, I am simply adding chicken manure, and 2 kinds of garden soil. One of them is apparently designed to retain water more and not get all cementy.

Quite a bit to spend on dirt to haul all the way back to the garden but it will pay off in lush green and all kinds of fresh veggies.

Boxes are fixes and the plants which came from the high school greenhouse fund raiser are in the ground. Still plenty of work and planning and planting to be done but the big job is done.

There are some returning blooms I will have to dedicate a post to later this month. Funny to see what pops up where every year and even discover some new unintentional additions.

@lynds might be happy to know that her flowers are coming up again this year. Can you guess what they are?

I managed to sneak an afternoon nap in while the sun was highest in the sky so I wouldn’t get too burned. This means work into the evening and the perfect opportunity to snap a @daveks sunset shot from the back yard looking west.

This is a preview for another big season in the garden and a #sublimesunday for sure!
