”Oh good gosh, you got to take care of yourself too”
This was one of my friends who has kindly reminded me the importance of self-care when we met up during the Wednesday prayer meetings. For those who has been following my sharings on HIVE would have seen the chaotic roller coaster ride since 2018 (with the rare occasion of a good break in 2019 with the HIVE family during HIVE Fest); and after 3 years I must say that my body seemed to have taken a toll since 2021 when hospital runs were inevitable and I have literally derailed from healthy food, scraping whatever near expiry food whenever I can and I have taken WAY too much carbs along the way (with limited total-sweat-out exercises)
I could have blamed it on the parents;
I could have blamed it on the lockdowns;
But I should not because my body is my own temple and my own responsibility.
Ending up my body with higher liver fat, skin break outs and weight gain is my own fault; allowing stress eating to get into me with sugar spikes (using near-expiry pre-mix to make waffles for sustainability) by foregoing no-sugar lifestyle was uncalled for.
The most important is that I know and accept the fact that I have made a mistake, and it is time to change.
Self-Care is necessary
It is not about selfishness or self-centeredness; it is the very fact that I need to keep staying strong and steady for my family I must exercise self-care. Not just a proper diet, but it is an all rounded health: mind, body and spirit, the ultimate Shalom that has granted to me in my Saviour but I just abused my body with neglect.
Skin begin breaking out in redness
Gaining 5kg (11 pounds) was a huge wake up call. It “doesn’t look a lot” but when age factors in, you can feel the muscle aches, joint (knee) pains, skin breakouts, mood swings will all come into the mix.
Especially the visceral and fat % keeps increasing, this is definitely not the original design that we were originally designed.
So how to “reverse” the effect?
The super dusty untouched gym
With the endemic stabilizing, it is time to make full use of the facility I have paid for monthly, even though the pool is still a little too far fetch to go due to lack of time, the gym (no matter how run-down the equipment may be) is definitely should be fully utilized.
(I was compelled to bring sanitising wet wipes to clean the gears before and after use)
If I can keep at least 3 times (20-25 minutes) a week evening workouts routine going, no matter how painful it is a good start.
