My Actifit Report Card: June 12 2022

in hive-193552 •  2 years ago

This was intended to be yesterday’s post, but let’s just say that between malfunctioning technology and life stuff, I’ve had issues.

So hi! Here it is Monday and I’m posting for Sunday, and there’s a good reason, besides the aforementioned issues. The reason is that I got nearly 30,000 steps yesterday (though Actifit is only acknowledging 26,403), and by golly I’m posting those steps.

But also it was an epic day. It started with making breakfast for my son who I had discovered was at home by surprise the night before. He is working as a camp counselor at a nearby summer resident camp, so when he showed up in my kitchen on Saturday night with his laundry, that was certainly interesting!

So I did the laundry Saturday night, made him breakfast Sunday morning, and delivered him and said clean laundry back to camp. From there I took my dog to a nearby dog park where she can run free.

I always bring the ball chucker because (in case it’s not obvious) this dog has a lot of retriever in her mutt make-up. Sadly, she immediately lost her ball in the overgrowth! But that’s okay. She actually prefers a stick.

Zoey loves to romp around that park. She even makes some friends.

There are trails going every which way, so it’s great because I can take this trail or that and eventually they all lead back to the entrance, and meanwhile we both get our exercise.

Naturally, I also had to take my artsy nature shots!

And then there were some not-so-natural shots.

And that was all before 11 in the morning!

To make a long post not much longer, I will just share that the rest of the day went like this. I spent hours in the garden, working all afternoon to spread mulch and clean up borders and pull weeds, etc. Then…

I showered put on something nice and my daughter and I went to a graduation party and visited with all the people we knew and had some food. And then…

On the way home we saw a giant snapping turtle in the road. We pulled over and examined it (from a safe distance) and could see that it had been hit by a car and was badly injured but was still alive.

Another Good Samaritan grabbed some snow shovels from his nearby house and we moved it off the road so that at least it wouldn’t have to suffer more trauma. I then tried to find an open wildlife rescue, and there wasn’t anything on the weekend. So I contacted the local police. A local officer met me there so I could show him the turtle. He explained that rescues will only take raptors and that turtles are considered nuisance pets, and he would have to put it down. I did not stay around for that operation. I just felt so sad that it couldn’t be saved. But I was very glad it would not continue to suffer.

The following is a picture of a large snapper I recently saw on a trail we hike, just for reference. The picture one is about 18 inches long in the shell. The one on the road was quite a bit bigger, maybe 21 inches.

And then…

I put my work clothes back on and worked in the garden all evening until 10 pm! It is that time of year when there is so much to do. And I’m hosting two events this week, so I want everything to look nice!

I will write a post soon featuring my garden. It is just beginning to shape up nicely.

Thank you for visiting! And a shout-out to @ace108, host of #beautifulsunday, and @c0ff33a, host of #sublimesunday. Check them out!
