No Stranger To Danger

High Water

Last week, this river was only trickling over this dam. Yesterday, it was roaring over it. Of course, the signs painted on and around the dam warn of danger and advise visitors not to play on it or in the water, but as my son said at this riverside barbecue, Whenever someone tells me not to do something, it just makes me want to do it.

I guess everyone else there felt the same way.

Divers Beware

Just beyond the dam, the footings of the train bridge make a great jumping platform for kids (and some past-their-prime-adults) to try out their aerial skills (or what’s left of them). Last year, my friend’s fifteen-year-old son split his head open trying to do a black flip into the river. Telling someone he needs to jump out and not up is definitely not the same as showing him. It was a lesson learned the hard way for all involved.

Fortunately, this year, there was no need for a sudden departure to the ER. The only need we had was the need to sit and enjoy this burger. What a treat!

Daily Activity

You can’t count steps while you’re in the water, but boy if you could, I probably would have had a stellar day.

Either way, steps or no steps, yesterday was the kind of day that summers were made for. Fun. Fun. Fun.
