Lots of steps taken today and some interesting jobs tackled at work too. First on the list was the dreaded EGR cooler from a BMW 1 series. Not to difficult to remove but it turned out not to the source of a mysterious water leak. So, it’s back to the drawing board and more diagnostic work for me to do tomorrow.
Another job from today was an easy fix. The customer had complained about her windscreen washers not working correctly and I knew exactly where to start looking. This is a common fault on almost all cars so pay attention and you might save yourself a trip to the local garage.
You know the place where you put in the water to top up your washers? Well that bottle which is normally position inside one of your wheel arches(you will have to remove the inner wheel arch cover to access the washer bottle but don’t worry it’s just a few screws).
Once you’ve done this little task the bottle will be accessible. Inserted into that bottle there is an electric pump which sends the water to your washer jet whenever you pull the lever.
Often people will think that when your washers go limp and splutter out water, it is the pump that is broken and needs replacing, but hold on, don’t be hasty! Remove the pump from the washer bottle and inserted into the hole where the pump fits, you will find a filter which acts as a safety barrier to stop sludge and other debri from entering the motor. Like this one…
Simply wash the filter and pop it back in. Voila! Your washers are now fully operational 😃
That’s it from me for this actifit post. I hope you found it helpful and somewhat interesting. It’s been blazing hot here in the UK and it’s set to continue through this week. Maybe, my boss won’t mind me turning up to work wearing only a pair of budgie smugglers? 🥜
