Thursday.

But it's already Friday night again.

It was a sunny and pleasant day for a walk into the woods... and guess what... well, the title image already gave it away: More mushrooms!

I found some more parasols, this time in the forest. This will be great to eat, so lets take a closer look and make sure.

In most countries the mushroom is named after its umbrella like characteristics, like "parasol". The french however have named it according to its pillary drumstick shape before the cap unfolds: "coulemelle".

These distinct shapes and their prominent size really help with identifying this mushroom, there's not too many that grow in such a manner.

Additionally you'll want to look for the dark outer skin flaking like this as the mushroom grows.

The final thing to check is that ring that stays on the stem once the mushroom has opened. This ring should not be attached to the stem at all and you'll be able to push it up and down the stem.

If the ring is physically attached to the stem: hands off!! Otherwise... dinner-time!

The stem isn't very edible due to its stringy texture, but the cap can be fried in a pan, maybe battered or breaded like a schnitzel. The taste vaguely resembles chicken with a nutty twist.

Oh, look, we have a visitor!

Thanks for your time!
