Smederevo Fortress is one of the largest fortresses in Europe. The fort is full of history so it has a check and today, 2012 archaeologists have found the tomb of a noble woman full of jewelry. Because of this and because the works on the walls are still ongoing, all lovers of history and architecture must visit this place.
And while in the fort you might find the lost treasure of the damn Jerina who knows !? The fortress of Smederevo is a large and small town. In the small town are the remains of the once great court of the despot and his family. The big city was built a little later and was inhabited by the population during the Turkish attacks.
This fort is full of legends, one of the most famous is that the despot Đurad Branković dreamed that he should erect a fort (city) at the mouth of the rivers and therefore ordered the construction of a city at the mouth of the river Jezava into the Danube. During masonry, the stones were taken from Kosmaj (60km from Smederevo), from Viminacium (40km from Smederevo) and from the fort in Ram (70km from Smederevo).
The people therefore found the culprit in the despot's wife in Jerin, and that's why they called her "damn Jerin." There is a legend which says that Jerina buried her great treasure in the fortress to hide from the occupiers and that to date no one has found that treasure.
If you visit this place you get the impression that you are a part of history because there is still excavation in the fort and something new is always being excavated. The excavation of the foundations of a still very mysterious church inside a fort which is not known for sure when first erected has found the tomb of several nobles with a slight unprecedented value! you can see all this in the Smederevo Museum, located just 200m from the fort.
The fortress of Smederevo has an irregular triangular shape with 25 high towers and is recognizable by that. The city fell completely into the hands of the Turks in 1459, and was also the end of the entire Serbian medieval state.
The fortress after all the wars was in perfect condition until the mid-20th century, during the Second World War when there was a huge explosion in it from German ammunition depots, then the fortress suffered its greatest damage but was not shamed with the earth in relation to the city in its vicinity of several kilometers which was completely demolished.

there are three small towers outside the fort that served as observation posts, and there is one on each corner
