Until about a century ago there were still many kingdoms that stood in the Nusantara archipelago. One of the relics that we still can see is the palaces.
The photo above is the Maimun Palace in Medan around the 1900s. This palace was the palace of the Deli Sultanate which was completed in 1891. This was a new palace after the Deli Sultanate moved the center of government from Medan Labuhan to the center of Medan City.
This photo was taken by Carl Josef Kleingrothe, a German who lives in North Sumatra, and the archive is kept by the National Gallery of Australia.
