The photo above is the Kauman Great Mosque, Yogyakarta Palace circa 1911. The Kauman Great Mosque is a Yogyakarta grand mosque founded by Sultan Hamengku Buwono I in 1773. Its architecture adopts the Javanese style, with a pyramid roof and ornate tops. It is different from today's mosques, which are dominated by a dome at the top.
This photo was taken by Jean Demmeni, a photographer of French-Madurese descent living in West Sumatra, and the archive is kept by Leiden University in the Netherlands.
