As a city close to Batavia, Buitenzorg received an abundance of development from the center of the Dutch East Indies. The cold weather of Buitenzorg made the area a favorite place for the citizens of Batavia to vacation. Even the governor general built a rest palace in Buitenzorg.

The construction of the Batavia-Buitenzorg railway line strengthened the relationship between the cities. The number of travelers from Batavia who vacation to relax to Buitenzorg makes the growth of the tourism industry in Buitenzorg, including hotels.

The photo above is of the Hotel du Chemin de Fer in Buitenzorg circa 1880 published by Carl E. Lang. The location of the hotel was not far from the train station, as if to welcome people who have just arrived from Batavia. This hotel is now the Mapolwil of Bogor City.
