Cisadane River in Bogor, 1880

The photo above shows the atmosphere on a piece of the Cisadane River in Bogor circa 1880 published by Carl E. Lang. We can see that the atmosphere of Bogor is still virgin in the photo, there are not many people and buildings.

The photo shows the Batutulis Bridge crossing the Cisadane River. For some reason there are two bridges side by side, the back one seems to have a roof.

The bridge uses bamboo as its main material, a material that is abundant along river banks in Indonesia. Before getting to know iron and concrete materials, bamboo was a favorite material for making bridges because it was cheap and strong.
