Ethnic Chinese have long been part of one of the tribes in the archipelago. The turbulent and war-torn land of China made many Chinese migrated to areas in Southeast Asia, including the Nusantara archipelago.
The photo above is a Chinatown area in Bogor circa 1880 published by the publisher Carl Lang. It is possible that this area is now known as Jalan Surya Kencana, a famous Chinatown area in Bogor. Previously, the area was named Jalan Perniagaan (commerce road) because of the many shops and business activities in the area. Ethnic Chinese have long been known as a race of tenacious traders. The mentality of being an overseas people makes the enthusiasm for success very big.
The photo shows typical Chinese buildings, as well as people with Chinese clothes and haircuts.
