There are many accounts throughout history that have been proven to be inaccurate or lost their original context. This is what turns fact into misinformation or even a long passed down legend.
Yet, I might say that legends birthed from twisted facts are part of history itself.
In many cases, historic based legends are told as part of folklore for order or tradition. That is also part of culture and history that we can't label as misinformation. It serves purpose in its own context.
