Every day, about ten million people cross the intersection outside Shibuya Station in Tokyo. With a capacity of 3,000 people, it is the largest pedestrian crossing in the world.
Every time the lights change, a little race starts. Who can go fast? Who will go straight? Who will go to the other side without jumping on anyone? It may not be so big in your city, but every day, the same thing happens billions of times in almost the same corner of the world.
I am always fascinated by the dramatic style of different people. Some people just stare blankly, others are completely immersed in their phones. Some get lost in conversation or thought, while others can’t wait to continue their morning race.
But without almost failing, the person who takes the first place on the other side grabs the attention. I try to be that person. I don’t always ‘win’, but when I win I’m in the middle and my coworkers just notice the green light (traffic).
There are plenty of ways to improve your thinking. Train your brain, set goals, think positive, eat the right foods, meditate, the list goes on and on. All of this is secondary to relentlessly using your best resources ঃ your attention.
