The Sixth Sense and its Medical Explanation

in healt •  3 years ago

The sixth sense is often considered a special sense, because not everyone has it and it is sometimes difficult to explain with common sense. In fact, the sixth sense can be proven by logic from the medical side.

Humans generally have five senses with their respective functions, namely the senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.

However, some people have more abilities, such as reading other people's minds, knowing events or things that other people don't know about, sensing that something is not right, or seeing the future. This ability is often referred to as the sixth sense.

According to the KBBI, the sixth sense can be interpreted as a tool to feel something instinctively or intuitively. In psychology, the sixth sense is also known as extrasensory perception (ESP) or additional sense, namely the ability to receive information that is not obtained through the five physical senses, but with the mind.
The sixth sense has almost always been associated with mystical things, such as indigo in children. However, in reality, the sixth sense can be explained by logic and scientific evidence.

Understanding the Sixth Sense Logically

There are several ways to describe the sixth sense logically and scientifically in humans, namely:

  1. Brain ability

Until now, many researchers are interested in revealing facts about the sixth sense. In fact, there are studies that show that the sixth sense is related to the brain.
There is a part of the brain called the anterior cingulated cortex (ACC) which is thought to be able to monitor or sense small changes in the environment, even when we are not aware of it. These changes are then used as a basis for adjusting the behavior.
The ACC, which is located at the front of the brain, is thought to sense danger. As a result, ACC is able to provide early warning that helps to escape from unpleasant situations.
In addition, ACC activity also increases when making a mistake or making a decision. ACC seems to give an early warning so that we are more careful and do not take wrong steps.

  1. Genetic factors

There are some people who are born with a sixth sense. This is thought to be due to a gene mutation that makes a person's function in one part of the brain stronger.
This sixth sense phenomenon is also often associated with savant syndrome. This syndrome occurs when a person with below-normal intelligence or someone with a physical or mental disability has special talents or special abilities in certain fields.
Savant syndrome is often associated with autism and brain damage, but not everyone with this syndrome has brain problems.

  1. Sensitivity of mind

One researcher says that humans can perceive and use visual information without having to see it. Humans have the sensitivity of the mind and the ability to detect different things that can lead to feeling changes in an event.
If we are able to feel an event will happen, this is because the human mind is quite sensitive. However, this opinion still requires further research.

  1. The ability to remember or memory

If you dream that your friend has had an accident and a few days later it actually happened, it doesn't mean you can see the future.
This could be due to thoughts where you always or often think about your friend, contact him, and talk to him. Actually the person in your dream can be anyone, but because that person is familiar with your thoughts, he is the one who appears in the dream.
Many scientists are trying to reveal the mystery behind the sixth sense so that it can be explained with common sense and logic. There are researchers who finally believe that a sixth sense does exist, but many also doubt its existence.
Medically, the sixth sense can not be concluded with certainty. The explanation regarding the sixth sense of medical glasses above is only based on small-scale research that still requires further research.
If you feel you have a sixth sense ability but it makes you uneasy and unable to carry out daily activities, consult a psychologist or psychiatrist so that the appropriate examination and treatment can be carried out.

Thanks you so much.
