There are several reasons why people have headaches in the morning. You might occasionally get them during a restless night or during stressful times, or you might have them frequently. A shift in your body's physiology could be the cause of your morning headaches. Your body may be less able to reduce internal pain in the early morning hours. Furthermore, during this period, your body can produce extra adrenalin, which could cause migraine attacks.

Migraine headaches in particular can be brought on by sleep disruptions and abnormalities. Sleep disturbances can precede migraine sickness by several years and can also set off an episode of migraines. Insomnia is linked to more intense and frequent migraine attacks, which can develop into chronic headaches.

Either a tension headache or a migraine typically causes persistent morning headaches. Along with symptoms like nausea or light sensitivity, a migraine frequently feels like searing agony in one spot. Head pressure is a common symptom of tension headaches. Tension headaches are more common in people who suffer from anxiety and/or sadness. Due to their tendency to create exhaustion, which makes life difficult, migraines are also linked to mental health problems.

There is a connection between insomnia and headaches as well. "Headache can be exacerbated by inadequate sleep, and they can be alleviated by better sleep." Morning headaches can also result from taking over-the-counter painkillers too frequently or for too long, as the body experiences withdrawal symptoms over night. Over-the-counter painkillers should only be taken a few times a week or no more than ten days a month .

Keep track of the following information prior to seeing a doctor:

  1. The moment the headache began
  2. The duration of the headache; and
  3. The presence or absence of any obvious triggers
  4. Meals you had the previous evening
  5. How well you slept the previous night 6. Feeling queasy or sensitive to light while having a headache
