Nevertheless, I've had a fairly wonderful life. Sometimes that sense of bewilderment and emptiness can be very powerful, nearly overwhelming. Nonetheless, I can declare with confidence and pleasure that life is generally wonderful.
The problem with happiness is that it's not like a light switch that you can flick on or off. Learning what true happiness means to you might often take years and years. Once more, there are as many possible answers to the topic of happiness as there are people on the earth. I've included my thoughts on the matter below.
Research provides strong evidence that maintaining a steady mood rather than experiencing frequent, intense episodes of success and happiness may be better for your mental well-being. In addition, respondents hardly never indicate their mood when asked what aspect of their lives they find meaningful. Most likely, they'll talk about something more significant to them, like a personal connection or the career they've fought so hard to achieve. In other words, despite what might seem obvious, being happy all the time will not make you happier.
The proverb "money doesn't buy happiness" is well known. While it is true that poverty makes it extremely difficult to be happy, being poor itself does not always equate to contentment or pleasure. Imagine for a moment that you were the recipient of a sizable pay increase or a surprise large cash windfall. You would undoubtedly be thrilled for a while. But soon enough, your standards will shift to fully align with your new spending limit. Stated differently, you have altered the standards for what constitutes happy. You'll soon feel exactly as content as you did prior to this financial windfall.
Ultimately, happiness is largely a result of a combination of your daily experiences and your level of contentment with your life and meaningful work. These two things are still largely stable. Although there are occasional changes in our lives and mood swings are a common occurrence, the majority of our happiness is mostly inherited.
