I associate Halloween with oranges, greens, black and most spooky things. One other prominent theme of the festival is the inclusion of pumpkin lanterns, otherwise known as Jack-o'-lanterns.
This tradition has its origins stemming from Irish settlers in the States. It is symbolic of the Irish story of Stingy Jacks, a man that drank with the devil.
The story sees the man coax the devil into a series of favours. After the passing of Jack, neither heaven or hell wanted his soul. This is where Jack would find himself making a lantern out of a carved turnip, or as we know it, the Jack-o'-lantern.
