Crazy English guy builds new greenhouse from the scraps of the last one (sunken armadillo style)

Inspired by the recent destruction of my cling film green house due to high winds I returned to the garden today with the intention to build another much smaller one, harder for the elements to destroy.

I didn't know when I set out what I was going to build but by the time I arrived it was clear to me I was going to attempt something like an armadillo with one side open and a tale end behind. Not really sure why I decided this? It just felt right. I jumped right in with five small pieces of hazelnut wood, digging them deep into the ground.

This is the only bit of land I have left which receives sun all day and isn't too busy.

You can see the other 'greenhouse' structure in the background there. There are two of them in fact, both destined to be uprooted in the next few weeks now that I have decided to re-design the garden around magnetised electroculture cables.

Keen to use some of the plastic from the last one I put multiple layers over the top here, weighed down by rocks. This is the back.

This is the front.

I dug out some of the earth from the inside and loaded it onto the outside, over the top of the rocks.

All in all I am pretty happy with this design and cannot imagine a wind strong enough to rip it apart like the last one.

The cold weather has not yet arrived but is due next week.

Let's see what happens. Have been putting down straw in case of heavy snow.

From over here you can barely see the new greenhouse!

I am content that my few baby plants (turmeric, physalis & bachelor's buttons) now have a sunken armadillo to live in.

Soon I will plant a bunch of other seeds which will also live in there till April.

It was getting dark by the time I was done with a few other jobs.

But I did not forget before I left to add those strips of gaffer tape (the missing ingredient from the last one!) so that I may sleep tonight in the knowledge that I have a solid functional greenhouse with a great exposition, all ready for the Spring. And this one will not be destroyed by high winds!

Love & Light everyone 🌱
