On Me, And Starting out in the Blurt Forest

in gardening •  3 years ago  (edited)

After a good long while, looks like I've finally made it to Blurt. I mean, I've been crypto blogging for quite some time, but I have found it hard to juggle more than one platform. However, people have been saying such nice things about this platform, how can I resist? Of course, it seems like a bit of a wild forest when you start new anywhere, so I'm hoping you can help me find a path!

I guess there's two kinds of people here - those that know me, and those that don't. I'll write as if none of you know me, so if you do, and want to skip to the section labelled 'help me!' then go right ahead. And do comment, even if you do know me, so I can follow you can get this party started!

I'm writing on the ferry back from Tasmania at the moment. I'm an Aussie mainlander, but I'm totally in love with this island at the end of the world - well, the bottom end anyway - and have been scouting to move there. It's a perfect place for a girl in love with nature - the ocean, in particular, as I'm a surfer, but also the rivers, the mountains, the wild forests. It brings me peace that I find hard to attain due to anxiety and hypersensitivity. I understand nature - people, I struggle with a little.

image.png

Saying that, I'm a social girl - I love engaging on social media, particularly a decentralised one, as I'm not keen on being told what to do and what to say. Media platforms such as F*cebook and others I shan't name are affecting us in huge ways, influencing us on a cultural level like no media platforms have done before. Most of humanity doesn't even realise how much we're all in this massive bubble together, shaping our future. Whether or not places like this are the answer, I sure appreciate being able to speak my mind without being censored.

Back to off chain shenanigans. I'm an air sign (if you don't do astrology, that's fine - bottom line it's just a way to understand myself and others, and there's more than one system to do that) so I'm a little hard to pin down and tend to jump from one thing to another with gusto and enthusiasm. People often ask how I do all of what I do and manage a blog a day, but I find blogging a relaxing daily exercise and language helps me sort out what's in my head as well.

Currently, I'm super into mushrooms. I'm growing oyster mushrooms in a fruiting chamber in my yoga room (yeah, I'm a yogi too) and, given it's been Autumn in Tassie, have been madly running from shroom to shroom in damp fern gladed forests finding the coolest fungi ever. It'd be cool to make a business out of it, but I'm not sure how to go about it yet.

image.png

I'm not a vegan, but don't eat a lot of meat, if at all, and have never eaten much dairy. I'm more into conscious eating, really, but you'll find me posting plant based posts sometimes. I do enjoy creative cooking, especially using homegrown produce. I like to think of myself as a gardening rebel - gardening can be an active of resistance and resilience in an increasingly regulated world. I believe modern agriculture is responsible for half the problems we have with accelerated climate change and is certainly responsible for our health as well. There's much science behind how what we eat has an influence on our mental and general health, and soil health is absolutely the basis of nutrition, yet we strip it off bacteria and fungi and all the creatures that influence the taste and the nutritional value of our food. And don't even get me started on big corporations and how they influence every level of our society, including what we eat and how we medicate ourselves. So yeah. Gardening can be revolutionary and a gateway drug to true independence.

I'm also keen on herbs - I'd say more of a folk herbalist and a kitchen witch as I don't have formal training. Not that I think we need that - it costs nearly 50K for an alternative health degree here and that's bananas. Woman - and men - have been supporting their health with plants forever, yet we seem to have lost a lot of that knowledge in favour of big pharma. I'd love to go back to times where our go to is plant medicine, with western medicine second (I'm not against alleopathy, to be clear).

image.png

I also love writing a little short fiction, particularly dystopian and apocalyptic. I'm not a dark person by nature - but I do love the dark side. I'm glad to be at the time of my life where I'm not diving into the darkness so much but exploring the real light in the world, but that doesn't mean I can't go there with my fiction sometimes.

Help Me

And now, dear friends, future, current and past, please help me get started here. Starting a new journey can be a little daunting without people to help you through the forest.

A few questions - given what I've written about above, which tags should I be exploring or using, or what people do you recommend? How much BLURT should I invest in to get started and to make my vote count? What exchanges deal with Blurt - I'm aware of Ionomy but are there others now? Are there particularly lucrative or important tags I should be focussed upon or does engagement and followers matter more? What other tips would get me rolling and moving here?

I had to come back and edit after a look around, as I had a few more questions! Is there a draft saving tool here? Is this the only front end for the Blurt token? What are the best 'community' or interest accounts to follow? Is there any existing gardening accounts, for example, or contests and challenges I can get involved with? Does every single transaction cost you BLURT? What else do I need to know?

I must admit, like anything I get involved in from fungi to hoop houses to surfing and hiking, I'm pretty darn excited.

Love Riverflows!

How lovely to see you here! If we could get @trucklife-family active here, I might feel a bit more at home.

I sure can't help you with tags, I suck at those.

There is a lot of support among individuals, a lot more than at hive, which feels more cutthroat to me than blurt does.

My top tip: everything you do costs a bit of blurt, even claiming your rewards, so do not let your liquid blurt go below 10!!!! I keep it at more like 50. It's possible to be dead in the water here until and unless someone grants you a bit, as @saboin graciously did for me back in the beginning, and as you did for me back in my early days on steem. Editing posts and comments is ridiculously expensive, so I try not to do that at all, ever.

If you are here for freedom of speech, as I am, I follow only accounts that believe the same, so perhaps you can find accounts to follow in my followed accounts.

Creative writing seems pretty slim here. It's possible I just haven't found those peeps though.

There is a front end that has a draft feature, and I think @tekraze is the person to ask about that. I have been composing in peakd, and copy and pasting here. I believe blurtlatam does save one version until you post it , but I can't guarantee that. What frontend are you using?

Anyway, welcome!

Oh yay, thanks so much. It's funny to be a total noob again! Funny, I learnt to rarely edit a post like in early days of Steem! Mistakes are part of the charm, or that's what I tell myself anyway. Maybe we should start some writing ting here? Hit me up on Discord if it seems a goer. Why am I talking in an odd patois? I have no idea. Just woke up..

Yes, I have thought about it, and would love to get some other opportunities going. Will contact you on discord in a few days.

Yepp, you can save templates on blurtbuzz/blurtlive/blurtone/blurtlatam frontends

Also draft is available everywhere

Hi @riverflows
I know you, you might remember me.
We are now a happy family, with a big bag of Blurts that will be coming unto you.
Use #instablurt and #blurtmob tags cause they will love your post and its all true. 😉

Oh yes I remember you! Did you leave Hive or are you still there? Cheers love!

Yes that instance from a discord server where you talked and giggled so cutely 😁

I left Hive to save myself from emotionally screed for life.

Welcome to Blurt, you will find people that will like you much here because of the kind of things you have to offer with your life and all. @riverflows 👍🌹

Same lol

I've only been here a few days myself so I am learning the ropes too. Great tip from @owasco. People here have been great! Welcoming and helpful. Respectful too so far. I forgot how much fun I had on the platforms. I loved Weku but it's gone now. Been gone. I am having a great time here on Blurt and finding old friends from the Steemit days. Old friends and new friends make a party! I think you'll really like it here. Welcome!!

Sadly, I guess. As much as I love HIVE, seems the downvotes wars are too much. I was doing 365 days too and my content ain't bad, but might have to cut my losses and leave as well if I'm being hit by downvotes for no good reason. Breaks my heart, but let's hope Blurt is a safer and kinder place to be.

  ·  3 years ago  ·   (edited)

You won’t regret it I didn’t realise how much that place zapped my energy. I gave up an actual liveable wage because money isn’t worth that kind of toxicity. Blurt is getting better and better and I neVer had a moments regret once I properly cut the platform off and focused here. It’s actually more engaging too you get a lot of great conversations.

That's really cool!!! I never used Weku but I have tried a few others. I'm hoping Blurt lives up to expectations! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!

Hi, welcome @riverflows! Nice to see you in Blurt! It's great to read your introduction which reflects you 100%.

I'm really glad you've entered this Blurt forest, because it's a very nice platform, with good receptivity and good vibes, so I'm sure you'll feel very comfortable here.

I'm going to share with you this link which is a guide to orient you about the tags. There are no communities here, but with the tags people get oriented. I am still learning, I have made few publications, but everything is observe and learn.

I am really happy to see you here, welcome!

Welcome to Blurt @riverflows

You have a lot of Blurt questions. I will answer the most practical.

Keep some liquid Blurt around always because every transaction takes Blurt. Your rewards will power up 75%.

I will follow and keep in touch^^

Ohhhhh I see. How long does power down take? And dies that stop people commenting, because it costs to do so?

Ohhhhh I see. How long does power down take?

Every week you can collect 1/4 of the power down. In 4 weeks the power down is complete.

And dies that stop people commenting, because it costs to do so?

The cost is very minimal and shouldn't deter anyone from making actions on the block chain. I would just make sure to keep a few liquid Blurt hanging around for transaction costs because when you are at zero it makes things very awkward. I think you cannot even collect rewards without a transaction fee so you have to borrow liquid blurt from someone to continue or send Blurt from Hive engine or ionomy. It is very minimal but that's the wy it works. Hive has RC and Blurt has minimal liquid Blurt charges.

You're welcome here. Nice to see you in blurt as well. ☺

Thankyou!

Welcome to Blurt. It is very nice to see such remarkable people here. You can express yourself freely here.

Another exchange is probit, or trivaldex if you have some hive you want to trade. The commissions are very low, with 30 or 50 blurt is enough to post, comment and vote, while you get rewards from the next post. It is advisable not to vote until your power exceeds x3 the commission paid (this is a personal opinion). The power down only takes 4 weeks, which is great.

Enjoy this social network. Best regards.

Bienvenida a Blurt.

A warm welcome to Blurt! Have a great start!🍀🌞❤️

thanks so much. Better late than never, right? I'm kinda excited about it!

True, true! 🤙

Welcome to Blurt! I reckon whatever questions go unanswered here ask again in a new post. I’ll try answer a few, so each 1 million BP gives about $2 in rewards at 100% so you can gauge from there, if you can over time get 500k plus BP that would be sweet.

Blurt has tiny fees on every single transaction to avoid chain bloat spam attacks and keep our witnesses light enough to run on a raspberry pi for the ultimate in edge-of-network decentralisation, with enough users posting Blurt may eventually become deflationary.

Blurt is also available on Probit and Tribaldex, oh and BBlurt to swap on Pancakeswap on Binance Smart Chain, actually all the dexes are listed in the menu.

That's great to know. I actually never traded the original drop and it's been sitting on ionomy forgotten! But I might see if I can raise a few more Blurt here and there when I have time to sort my finances. Well done for making a go of it. I notice the fee for comments changes. What is it based on? It can't be word count surely?

Yeah based on size of the transaction so more words more fees
