Another week, another seed bursting forth life, another crop harvested, another flower appreciated! What's been going on in your garden world? We've been on the hunt looking at what's happening in your garden appreciating lives, from flower shows to neighbour's gardens and potatoes growing in the mud in Ireland.
So that's where we will start - @northern-tracey's potato growing love. She talks about the best kind of way to grow potatoes - NOT boggy soil, as is the case in her Irish home.
Potatoes were brought to us originally from the mountainous areas of Chile and Peru. Personally I like to look at the history of a plant, where it came from and so what it thrives in. Hillsides are very well drained and windy. Expecting them to thrive in animal manure and boggy soil is obtuse at best. (I love the word obtuse HA). Blight is basically mould. Mould grows where their is moisture and a lack of oxygen. If a plant has blight it is drowning. Simple. By building the heugal with dry grass cuttings it protects the plants from being overwatered but it also keeps some moisture from evaporating. You can even actually grow potatoes in pure straw. Look up strawbale gardening.
How do YOU grow potatoes?
For many of us, appreciating a garden or growing one is part of appreciating nature as a whole. @baiboua explains it well in this post.
Entering a green area full of trees or even seeing pictures of nature in the room helps to increase the ability to think and feel happier. This reduces selfish behavior while playing games enhances creativity and more time spent in nature. Spending time in nature is good for us both directly and indirectly. It will help reduce stress levels help to be healthy help to be creative. The amazing wonders of nature awaken the senses. Let us know that we are part of something great. make us less selfish.
For those lucky enough to go to the Chelsea in Bloom show, you might have snaffled some new plants. Don't miss @ultravioletmag's series which starts here. She's adding to an incredible balcony garden, which has inspired her neighbour to buy plants too. If you want to be inspired by flower creativity, go check out this series!
For others flowers are a way of escaping the depressing horror around them, like @yakubenko's flowers. @miloaz's lilacs were also very gorgeous.
Elsewhere on Blurt, @clixmoney's neighbourhood has been covered in poplar fluff and @drrutter's medicinal cannabis patch is coming along nicely. @animal-shelter's been planting cages as well as plants to protect them from digging paws, and @offgridlife reminds us of the importance of dandelions.
And check out @petrapurple's lovely interior garden, a place to enjoy, breathe and meditate, as well as @hangin's pictures of fig trees in Thailand - aren't they just stunning? One thing that is awesome about Blurt is all the amazing gardens and plants we get to see from all over the world.
Every week @gardendiary awards someone featured in the curation 2 Blurt. As it's so hard to decide, we're going to do it randomly, using an online wheel and adding everyone that's been featured. This week's winner is @ultravioletmag - honestly! Perfect - she wrote enough #gardendiary posts to fill Kew gardens, well deserved this week!
Don't forget it's not too late to join in the #gardendiary challenge, and we have the new MONTHLY challenge starting TOMORROW (Friday) with prizes up to 50 BLURT!
Super encouraging you all to join in - by participating, you ensure the growth of a supportive gardening community on Blurt, and Blurt's very future itself!
Happy Gardening, Blurtfolk!
