A Captivating Adventure: My Review of Ori and the Will of the Wisps

in gaming •  2 years ago

Hello and welcome to my blog.

I couldn't hold on anymore and gave away to my temptation of Ori and the will of wasps. I have seen its review, and even watched a bit of gameplay before but tonight I decided to play it.

First things first, what an epic masterpiece of a game with breathtaking visuals and cinematics. The first chapter is like a treat to your eyes, the cinematic leading up to the big storm is just a remarkable scene. One of the best prologues I have seen so far.

The first section of the game, **Swallow's Nest is mostly cutscenes leading up to the storm that separates the owl. It is a rollercoaster of emotions.

The actual game starts from the next section called, InkWater Marsh. I understand that there are many regions or biomes in this game and this biome represents the swamps. And even the supposed swamps look beautiful in every sense.

Gameplay

This is not just a game but a piece of art. But one of the important parts is the gameplay.

Ori's movements are fast and smooth and you can unlock abilities like double jump or Bow and arrows that let you unlock different sections of the biome. Besides the main quests, there are some NPCs too that will give you side quests along the way and will reward you with exciting stuff.

Ori's ability will allow you to interact with the world different. And the experience will become richer and richer the more you play.

Although the challenges are not too difficult but missing a little secret pathway could prove to be an originator of stress while playing.

By the way, I should make it clear that I have not played the original Ori game and jumped straight to this one as I have seen/heard more about this one and it doesn't disappoint, not a little bit.

Did I mention that its soundtrack is just amazing, you will never be left alone you will be accompanied by beautifully composed soundtracks throughout the game, the sound reacts to the situation dynamically and will provide the feel for the environment easily.

The world design is pretty solid too, all the regions seem to be connected in what feels like a platformer open world where you have a greater sense of freedom on how you choose to complete certain missions/tasks.

Combat

Let's talk about the Combat, the combat is not overly complicated and not too simple too, just the right amount with added abilities to be purchased and an in-game currency that can facilitate adding of new skills through characters in the game.

You will encounter some boss fights from time to time... always love a good boss fight, defeating a much bigger enemy is always satisfying in any game.

Here is me thinking about what ability to purchase for my Ori and which suits my playstyle the most.

I love the game so far and can't wait to play more. I will take a rest more. It is addictive too. You can also take one more pathway, kill another monster or add some more ore to your bag. :))

Let me know if you have played it and what was your experience and please no spoiler in the comments. xD

I have not bought a video game since Doom 3 in 2004 (18 years ago). This is mostly because I found most games became little more than fancy graphics, with very little actual gameplay, strategy, or open-endedness. If there is any gameplay at all, it is linear and predictable, mainly relying on cinematic scenes (like an animated film). I miss the video games of the 1980s and 1990s!
