Rush'n Attack, known in Asia and Europe as Green Beret, is an arcade action game produced by Konami in 1985. This game was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1987.
The game was popular because of its anti-Soviet Cold War setting and player characters resembling a main G.I. Joe character called Flint who wears a beret.
The Story
You are a special forces Green Beret commando who is a master of guerilla warfare. You are only armed with a combat knife and a mission: to free the POWs hidden in a fortified enemy base. But make one mistake, and it is all over. Do it for our dear POWs and the future of the Free World!
The Graphics and Sound
The graphics are above average. The introduction screen sets you in the mood for the military adventure. You can see that this game has more detail than other military-themed video games of its time. The backgrounds even have a good military-like atmosphere.
There is also some nice animations included, such as when your Green Beret commando jumps over the fence at the end of a level.
The sound effects are pretty nice. The music of each stage is very catchy and fits the game well. You will also hear a few digitized anthems of some great-freedom loving countries!
The Gameplay
Rush n' Attack is a thrilling game. Your character can only attack with a knife. Numerous enemies are after you. You need to have quick reflexes, as enemy troops keep on coming to take you down.
What makes this game difficult is that you are killed by one hit and got only 3 lives without continues. But you can earn more extra lives with points. That is why you always have to be on your toes in this game. That's what makes the action non-stop.
Some enemies will have items that you can use, such as a rocket-propelled grenade launcher (RPG) with 3 shots, 3 grenades, or a bulletproof ability medal. These items can help a lot.
The 2 player co-op mode is fun! Playing with a friend makes the challenge of beating the levels easier. However, if you like your game a bit more difficult, make sure you try Rush n' Attack on single player.
My Verdict
Rush n' Attack is a pretty good NES game with nice replay value. Its Cold War theme setting makes it insulting to Russians (as the enemy) and makes it an underrated gem. Do not pass this one up.
Go play it on the NES or on your chosen emulators. Go play Rush n' Attack with a friend.
I like that game a lot, but I was also pretty bad at it. Never got any better, either.
Sorry for the delayed reply.
You can finish the game surely if played with a friend.
