Miniroyale 2 is probably one of the best free 2 play .io games that I've found yet.

Thanks to Open GL more and more games are coming online that can played within a browser, no download required.

And that works because I mostly live on my laptop that's a couple years old and doesn't have much in the way of graphics support.

What is openGL?

According to https://www.opengl.org/

OpenGL is the premier environment for developing portable, interactive 2D and 3D graphics applications. Since its introduction in 1992, OpenGL has become the industry's most widely used and supported 2D and 3D graphics application programming interface (API), bringing thousands of applications to a wide variety of computer platforms.

I guess the key word here is portable, because the interaction happens through a web browser. Another game that I play occasionally that also uses OpenGL would be Krunker.io, but I like the Battle Royale style of MiniRoyale2.

Basic Mechanics

As you get kills and win matches you earn gold, which is exchanged for cosmetic items. This is free to play and there's no way to gain a tactical advantage through monetary means, which is awesome for creating a level playing field.

There's a half dozen open maps, players are parachuted in and its a free for all, last man standing wins. There all kinds of weapons from pistols, SMG and assault riffles, grenades and even smoke grenades.

Basic armor exists in vests, helmet, and a backpack to increase ammo capacity. There's also a capture the flag mode which is fun as a change of pace.

Last but not least there's clans, and ability to create private matches for the more competitive players out there.

Happy gaming

Ok happy gaming to anyone that has the extra time these days!
