  • fruits such as strawberries grapes kiwi pineapple, or any fruit of your choice
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup ice cold water
  • Wooden skewers or bamboo sticks

Instructions to be followed

Follow these simple steps

  1. Wash and thoroughly dry the assorted fruits. make sure they are completely dry to ensure the sugar coating sticks well.
  2. Insert wooden skewers or bamboo sticks into the fruits making sure to leave enough space at the bottom for holding.
  3. In a small saucepan combine granulated sugar and water. Heat over medium heat stirring constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Once the sugar is dissolved increase the heat to medium high and bring the mixture to a boil. Cook without stirring until the syrup reaches the hard crack stage on a candy thermometer, or until a drop of syrup dropped into cold water forms hard and brittle threads.
  5. Remove the syrup from heat and let it cool for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  6. Dip each fruit skewer into the syrup coating the fruit evenly with the sugar syrup.
  7. Place the coated fruit skewers on a parchment lined baking sheet or a wire rack to cool and harden.
  8. Allow the tanghulu to cool completely before serving.
